In discussion with our good friend Dave F. the subject of the little reflector in the rear saddle on our 56's came up. These darn thing are non existent and what is being sold as replacements are not exact so I did a bit of research and came up with an LED that is also a reflector. And about the same size as the original reflector. to use this little light there must be a bit of modifications, 1) the 1/4" hole the the reflector mounted in must be enlarged to 5/8". A step drill did that task. The pigtail ends are both large bullet ends so I nipped off these and and replaced one with a #10 eye for ground (white wire) and extended the Black. I have not completed the wiring to date but will add more later. Dave F is probably ahead of me as usual.

How does the exterior size compare to the original?

Turning those reflectors into LED's is a great idea, I think. I have been wondering how to do it well on my '61 Lancer taillight bezels too. The problem for me is that they are outside the body, completely in the trim line. So I'm not sure how to get them in there in the space available.

My 57 Imperial has 2 of those, fortunately found 4 NOS in Carlisle when a vendor just opened the space. You are right they are inexistent now...

Thanks for posting this Del. (And giving me a pair of these LED lights). When we discussing this a while back (months ago), I said that I wanted to do it but I also wanted the LED reflector to be a passive reflector as well. The ones that you found seem to check off that box.

At your suggestion, I used a stepped drill bit to open up the previous tiny hole (for the 10-24 stud on the OE reflector). I kept checking until I just had the hole open enough to pass the base of the LED light through the hole (with the two wires).

I've only temporarily installed mine (I need to remove them and paint the raw bare metal that the step drill opened up). As for wiring, I temporarily patch-corded the two options, i.e. additional running light *OR* additional stop/signal light. (With only two wires, you can't have running and stop/signal). There might be a three wire LED light out there but I doubt that it has a reflector.

I think that this option might work for 57 and 58 Dodges as well as the 56s. See photos below.

Here are the photos that I saved related to this.

Thanks again Del.
