There were no Dodge D500s until they were first announced in December 1955 for the 1956 Model year.

The 1956 Dodge D500s used the D500 badges that were used on the 1954 Dodge Royal Indianapolis 500 pace car. The PN for the badge was 1599 218

The Indy pace car (with three of the cross-flag D500 badges, one per side (on the front fenders) plus one at the back):

In 1956, the same crossed flags "D500" badge was used on both the trunk lid and the front hood:

The hood:

After 1956, each year there were different D500 badges, as shown below (NOTE the year is in the photo name UNDER each photo). After 1956 there were no D500 hood badges, just trunk or rear valance or rear fenders, as shown below (NOTE: If you have better photos of these D500 badges please post them here - the ones that I found (other than my own 56 D500 badges) might not be the best):

Oops. Forgot about the D501 badge (for the 354 Chrysler hemi based/equipped 1957 Dodges)

The D-501 with the yellow background is supposed to be the vendor prototype for Hardware Acceptance. Note the different eye slots between the flat D-500 and D-501 Emblems.

There were a lot of difference between a D-500 and a D-501, most notable was the D-501 came with a 354 Chrysler Hemi. There were two D-500 emblems. The first was a flat face unit (upper left picture). According to Neil, it was never actually installed on a production car (or maybe a very few). This emblem was the basis for the D-501 emblem. The lower left emblem is the production D-500 unit, which has a 3-D face and is a bit smaller.

And this D501 badge from the internet:
