Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Picked up this 61 300 G Rusty, missing key parts, headlights are falling out, hood is rusted off hinges, vin# had rusted off and was lost. The section below rear roll up Windows is really rusty Console, gauges, grille, radiator, trim are gone. Motor is siezed. The good is the motor is there and complete from air cleaners to oil pan. The cutout inner fenders are there, swivel front seats are there. Floorboards are decent. It has a 999 paint code. It's a really cool blueish green color originally My plans for it is to pull motor and swivels for my 61 FURY. What's left is too good to part and too far gone to restore! Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | MrIncredible - 2021-03-16 3:21 PM Nice find. Let me know if you end up parting it-I'm mid resto on a '61 myself. I would not part it,but missing the vin would make it hard to put some money into it. I did have some wild thoughts of grafting the roof and 1/4 mid section, rear section onto a 62 NY 4dr and making a 2 to 4dr conversion? Or I know where a stripped out solid 62 Newport coupe shell is. Maybe graft the backend of 61 onto Newport coupe? I'm a pretty good welder but, don't have the body work skills to do what you did with your 61. I do have a guy interested. In fixing up what's left of this 300 What do you guys think? How hard would it be to get a vin# for this car? Anybody in 300 club help locate a vin # for this car? There can't be too many made in this color?

Board Moderator & Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 13045 Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | There is a number stamped behind the heater fan duct - if you remove the duct you will se the number. It's the 3 and 4 numbers from the VIN-tag + Shipping Order Number from the SON-tag Exemple VIN 8203 129829, SON 02091351 Hidden serial number 0302091351 (IMG_2961-rez.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_2961-rez.jpg (184KB - 146 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Here is data tag. Will take me a bit to remove heater box. I have seen that number on parts cars under box. Attachments ---------------- image.jpeg (240KB - 214 downloads) image.jpeg (273KB - 215 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | So when I get box cover off it should read ...11098295 ? What would the vin be? Or what links fender tag to vin?

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Never mind I think I get it now. I still don't get a full original tag door vin? Would 300 club have a door vin available by providing tag sequence number?

Member Posts: 5 | Hi, I see in your pictures that your 61 has 4 rear bumper guards. I am looking for for a set. Would you be interested in selling a pair? Thank you, Tim

Expert Posts: 2289 Location: Eastern Iowa | Color looks to be Polar Blue maybe. Same as my 999 300F, only known hardtop originally w/that color. The 300 club will need your vin# to track down any info.= so I'm afraid you are SOL I'm surprised you could even purchase a car without a title or vin# That would really take some work, not to mention time to do a search backwards like that to find the VIN# Here in Iowa, you cant even junk one without a title

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | No carpeting or glove box left. I would think that 300 club would have researched letter cars from Chrysler historical like Darrel Davis did? i can't imagine that there were too many 61 300s with this color? Would make it stand out in paperwork?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9654 Location: So. Cal | Yeah, unfortunately, I don't think you can tie the SO number to the VIN without the build sheet or the IBM card. You could ask Chrysler Historical if they can find an IBM card based on an engine number, but I doubt they can or will. Since there weren't very many 300G's made, you could narrow it down by starting with the proper VIN prefix, to save them some work. I've said it before, without a title or VIN it's just a parts car. Without those, there's not much you can do to save it.

Maybe this helps some other folks...
