Hi Guys

I saw this aluminum plate (more than 2 decades ago) in my 61 Chrysler radiator support, and I thought it was something made in Argentina. Maybe by a local dealer.

Now, after seen it in every car I found there, I believe it was something done special in Detroit for export models. Specially because the screws were chromed and the hole in the support was made by a machine. Of course the plate is just bare aluminum now, with just some red paint remains.

Can someone confirm this? Specially over Europe and even maybe in Canada? Every car in Argentina has km/h speedometer. Thanks!!

I have to take a guess here Denis - After what I heard (not confirmed) the export cars to Germany was given a "German" serial number.
Perhaps it's like that over there to?

That what we thought too, but it was just painted not stamped. The thing is that in Argentina the engine number is part of the body of the car according to the laws. Changing the engine is a huge painful processes with the DMV and It also required police inspection and certification.
If this was a numeration, then the engine should be too, specially with the probability of some cars coming with the same engine number AKA code and date of manufacture. I have a remote idea of what it is, but hopefully some of the export owners can help me out, since I'm 90% sure was done in Detroit for all of them.

Yes Denis, the tag should have the numbers stamped/punched in if it really is the local serial number.
I think I can get in touch with a 300F that was sold new in Holland, if so I'll ask him to check for such a tag or evidence of it if it have been removed.

ok that would be great, another problem of that plate been a number one, is that was actually screwed to it and not welded. The attachment screws were also chromed another indication of something important.

The tag has the Chrysler logo and the text Chrysler Corporation, It's difficult to see the rest of the text.

Most probably the signs actually was mounted on the exported vehicles Denis, there was two options, with serial number window and without.

Now you could buy one or make a label.

Sorry Denise, I've checked Gary Goers catalogs both # 9 and # 10 and I could't find them.

Anyway, a good printing company with a tampoon printer could easily print these signs, it's all a question of the initial cost for making the stamp.
A good quality label could be an alternative, the aluminium plates could be cut out manually or with water cutting machines.

The cost of those signs are "priceworthy" https://www.ebay.com/itm/SERIAL-TAG-CHRYSLER-CORPORATION-/1226776487...

well $30, is not that much, considering the time and effort to make a new one. Besides it was a 23 years mystery solved, around 76 cent a year lol...
