Jerry: "Pads" implies disc brakes. 55/56 Plymouths and Dodges did not come with disc brakes. They came with drum brakes that used brake shoes. Are you talking about the curved brake shoe lining material? If so good luck a) finding just that and b) finding some one to install the new material onto your shoes.

In which case, you need brake shoes (the assembly of the metal support bit and the friction material).

Now you need to tell us the diameter of the inside of the drum. 10"? 11"?

And the width of the wear surface of the shoe and drum. 2"?

If 11" x 2 ", these might be right for you:

"Ok here we have the 11" brake shoes for the great V8 powered 1955 and 1956 Plymouths! Brand new fresh stock, and NO CORES to deal with. Some of our biggest sellers."

hi
thanks for reply. This car was built with a 270" v8, does that information clarify the size?
thank you

hi
thank you
the car now has a heavier engine, a 318" engine. Does that affect brake shoe size? What do you suggest.
thank you

All V8 '56 Plymouths came with the 11" brake shoes. The 10" shoes came on the 6cyl cars. Wagons may have all came with 11", I'm not sure. Anyway, you should need the 11".

I know this an older thread but why not just have your shoes, if you have them, re-lined? I had the shoes for my '56 re-lined with organic material so they don't wear the drums.

Stroller, that's a good comment but it would be better if you told us where you sent your shoes to get relined. BTW the organic linings were developed to try to get away from asbestos linings but from my more than 50 years as a mechanic I can tell you they tend to squeal and do not have the same coefficient of friction as the old asbestos linings. In other words, they don't stop as well but that is what we are stuck with unless you go to a metalic lining which does wear the drums more.

hi
to get brake shoes relined, contact Ed Spiegel Antique Moparts Co., in Murraysville, Pennsylvania, 412-559-6880 or parts4u@aol.com
Ed said he could restore the existing brake shoes and turn around time would be 2 weeks.

Hey 58 I took to them to a local place called Pueblo brake and clutch. They are in Pueblo, Colorado. And I know about friction and all that, but yep they didn't have metalic and I only have little squealing issue with the right front drum. The cost wasn't a big deal at all, about the same price might be for buying new shoes.
