This table will be used early in the post that I want to do about the 53-57 Dodge Double-Rocker ("Hemi") engines.

As before, a lot (almost all in this case) of the info comes from Willem Weertman's book ("Chrysler Engines - 1922 - 1998")

In compiling the data from this book into this table, I was surprised that the first Desoto and the first Dodge double-rocker engines had the same bore spacing and the same block length (but different deck heights) so different blocks (but not by much).

Interesting that the calculated hp/cu in is the highest in the Dodge 241. Good for the Dodge boys!!

I am hoping that somebody can help me fill in the missing carb numbers for the 51 Chrysler and 52 Desoto 2 bbls. (I still don't have that Leo Lingquist hemi data book).

Thanks very much Chuck. Again, I hope that that was a cut and paste job, because otherwise, that was a lot of typing. Thanks.

I've actually been able to find a Carter water-cooled (heated?) WCD 931 2bbl on eBay. Interesting but scary.

Thanks again.

Here are the '52 DeSoto 276 hemi carbs:

1952 8 276 S17 fluid drive Carter BBD 901

1952 8 276 S17 S/T Carter BBD 905

1952 8 276 S17 S/T with O/D Carter BBD 906

1952 8 276 S17 fluid drive Carter BBD 908

1952 8 276 S17 S/T Carter BBD 909

1952 8 276 S17 S/T with O/D Carter BBD 910

1952 8 276 S17 Carter WCD 884

They vary depending on transmission used. That 324 in the '51 Chrysler carb data has got to be a typo for 331. I've never heard of a 324.

I can see now where folks are getting some of their carb numbers from (thanks):

https://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Passengerkits.htm

On that basis, and the numbers that I have been given, I have revised the table to appear like this now:

Just found these videos (couldn't find one for the 1952 Firedome introduction):

Chrysler Master Tech - 1951, Volume 4-8 FirePower Engine Facts:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBQ6ztwz_ac

And Chrysler Master Tech - 1952, Volume 5-11 Dodge Red Ram V-8 Engine:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jnNNQhZSJg

The Dodge one talks about the compression ratio of the first Red Ram being 7.1:1 (Weertman said 7.0:1 in his book). The 53 Dodge Brochure says 7.1:1 so I guess Weertman was wrong?

And this:

A bit of an update. One change is the compression ratio of the 1953 Dodge Red Ram double-rocker engine. Willem Weertman, in his book, says 7.0:1. The 1953 era Dodge brochures and videos both say 7.1:1. I changed the ratio to 7.1:1 for the 1953 Dodge Red Ram on that basis.
