Previously, I had been chasing down the PN of the Upper Rad Hose on a 56 Dodge V8. At the time, I thought that a Gates 20475 was the best bet even though it was listed by some suppliers as being the lower hose. I bought two (from different sources (one was Rock Auto)). I always figured that if the 20475 didn't work for the upper, I would at least have a new Lower and a spare.

This thread:
http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=67622&...

Yesterday late I contacted DelS (Dels56) who has a 56 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer with a 315 poly and asked him if he took notes on what he had used for new hoses on his engine. He replied this AM with:

"These are the numbers I have noted. I may have had to shorten one but don't remember exactly.
Top 1639.772 AC Delco 20026S
Bottom AC Delco 22273M"

Thanks for that Del.

I was able to find an AC Delco 20026S (turns out to be *VERY* similar to the Gates 20475). Then I turned my attention to the lower hose and tried chasing the AC Delco 22273M. It turned up in the results of the search in a couple of spots:

https://www.dpars.com/en/Product/ACDelco/Radiator-Coolant-Hose/22273...

That revealed that the 22273M had a 1.5" inside diameter (I.D.) which I checked against the lower rad port and the water pump housing discharge spigot. Yup. Both 1.5" (so the 20475 with its 1.75" I.D. would not have worked, even if the shape was correct.

Unfortunately, the shop that had the 20026S did NOT have a 22273M and, furthermore, had never ever had one in their system. So I was hitting a wall.

Not willing to give up yet, I determined the PN for the lower hose as 1639 773, so I googled "1639773 radiator hose" and eventually stumbled on a Dayco 70081 that fit the bill, size-wise (1.5" I.D.) and seemingly the correct shape.

Armed with the OE PN (1639773) and the AC Delco 22273M and the Dayco 70081, I contacted my closest NAPA. Turns out NAPA up here (and maybe the US) only handles Gates hoses. So the NAPA parts guy tried the OE PN (1639773) and got a hit as Gates hose with a NAPA number, NBH 7096. They didn't have one in stock but could get one from their main warehouse about 15 miles away in about 2hrs so I said "Go for it".

In the meantime I googled some more and got some details on the NBH 7096 which lead to info on a Gates 21660 which crossed to many hoses including the 7096 and the 1639773. So I was pretty confident that it would work on the bottom.

I picked up the hose and brought it home. It compares very favourably to the lower hose that I took off yesterday and it fits nicely on both the water pump housing discharge and the lower radiator port.

Here are the results of this investigation:

Finally installed the Napa 7096 (Gates 21660). As you might have guessed, it was too long at both ends. I ended up cutting 1.75" off one end and about 2" from the other.

Here is a repeat of the comparison of the hose I took off and the hose that I intended to installed (before cutting):

Here is the 7096 after trimming and installation (with Corbin clamps). I am happy with the installation and will leave it if I can:
