Regular Posts: 71 | I would like help to decode the data tag and to verify if the vin tag is listed in the Darrell Davis book to confirm whether or not this 60 Fury is a factory Sonoramic Edited by Autoart 2021-06-10 11:19 AM (1960 Fury Data Tag (2).jpg) (Vin Tag.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1960 Fury Data Tag (2).jpg (102KB - 184 downloads) Vin Tag.jpg (73KB - 180 downloads)

(That's all I can see - others will see more (maybe)) Edited by 56D500boy 2021-06-10 1:28 PM (60PlymouthVINs_1.jpg) (60PlymouthVINs_2.jpg) (60PlymouthVINs.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 60PlymouthVINs_1.jpg (85KB - 217 downloads) 60PlymouthVINs_2.jpg (78KB - 210 downloads) 60PlymouthVINs.jpg (113KB - 194 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | It really has nothing to do with the data tag, and everything to do with Darrell Davis's registry. So you need someone who has that book. But, one thing I can say, is that the riveted VIN tag on this car is a very bad sign as to it's authenticity. Very possible that the VIN tag has been swapped over from some other car.

Regular Posts: 71 | The black car was built in the Los Angeles plant. Does anyone have a picture of another vin tag from the Los Angeles plant showing how it is affixed to the pillar? Does anyone know if the LA plant used rivets of the same type as shown in the photo above ( black car) or different rivets or alternatively spot welds? For comparison I enclose a picture of vin tag from a 60 Fury ( Gold) from the Detroit Plant which is spot welded and the rivet holes are bare Edited by Autoart 2021-06-10 1:05 PM (SAM_7194 2.jpg) Attachments ---------------- SAM_7194 2.jpg (133KB - 176 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | The VIN tags are always spot welded on during the forwardlook years. No rivets. This is the VIN tag from my '60 New Yorker that was built in Los Angeles. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | I can't tell for sure, but it looks like that Fury VIN tag may be made out of aluminum, and I don't see any evidence of a spot weld on it at all. If so, it's a replacement tag, and even more suspect, and illegal. Get it inspected, and you could end up with a mess of trouble & a police issued replacement tag.
