Looking at the spray on bedliner in my 2016 Ram 1500, and am impressed at how tough and durable the liner is. So I had the bright idea that this might be an ideal material to rust proof and sound proof the floors in my 1959 Chrysler. Has anybody tried this before on their cars? The stuff is impossible to remove after it sets up, so I’m afraid to experiment and accidentally ruin my floors. What are your thoughts?

Bummer with bedliner on floors is you can't really stick anything to it. So jute backing, or carpets cannot be glued down. They also are more abrasive than undercoating since part of the purpose of bedliner is to supply a grippy surface for your feet while in the bed of the truck. They make undercoating and floor coating, Eastwood has a product that almost perfectly matched the factory MoPar floor lining. It's more rubbery and thus works well with adhesive for interiors.

Either one is idea for the floors. Now personally, I never spray this on the inside of the floorpans, since that would only have been painted originally and even on new cars they never undercoat the inside. So spraying this on the underside of your floors will greatly reduce the noise and heat. On the inside, you can do a dynamat or similar heat/sound matting, or just do what the factory did and do a Jute-backed carpet. I've found that most of the road noise and such I get in these cars is from the engine bay and windows, not so much the floor.

I used bed liner on the bottom of the last 3 cars I built. It works very good for stone and rust protection. I did not use it inside. I just painted the inside very thoroughly, then added sound dampening and a layer of thermal insulation. The bed liner works very good for stone protection and to prevent rust on a car you have restored, but I use other products inside for noise and heat control.

Professional restoration shops often use "bedliner" on the UNDERSIDE of cars that are less than total show car restorations which have color glossed undercarriages.

The trunk of my '71 Charger. Bedliner on the floor. Bedliner tinted body color inside the quarters.
