Location: Muskego, WI | Was about to put the wiper arms with new rubber blades back on my Imperial as it is one of the few remaining finishing touches, but I thought I'd turn on the wiper motor to check function. It seems to me that my variable speed wasn't working and that when I shut the switch off the wiper posts (again, arms aren't mounted) just stop wherever they happen to be. Is it possible to adjust the park function? What would prevent the variable speed from working?
I don't think I'll need the wipers often, but I do want them to work properly in case I do get caught in the rain. |

Location: Invermere B.C. Canada - Rocky Mountains | The parking feature is done by a ramp type mechanize inside the wiper motor that keeps the power on until in the park position. I think that you have two separate problems (just like airplane crashes) but the parking one is the important one. What does the shop manual say ? |

Location: Muskego, WI | The factory manual does mention the park mechanism you describe, but no in much detail. There is no trouble shooting suggestions or anything to try if the self park feature isn't working. I never did disassemble and clean up the motor assembly. |

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The parking is provided by reversing the motor direktion, which turns the cams so the arm levers become longer. There's a built in switch the finally cuts the power and the the wipers park against the Window molding.
If the swith arm is frozen by stiff grease, then the wipers will not park correctly.
If there's a bad Ground to the wiper switch and/or to the motor, the system don't work correctly |

Location: Muskego, WI | Well shoot, it's kind of a pain to get the wiper motor out, I believe the service manual says I have to remove the radio and some of the cowl ventilation mechanisms to do so. Might have to just apply some Rain-X to the windshield and leave the wipers there for show for a while. |
