1956 Dodge Coronet - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive... (craigslist.org)

I purchased this 1956 Dodge Coronet from a local gentleman who bought the car more than 30 years ago in hopes of restoring it back to it's former glory, unfortunately that never happened.

This Coronet has been off the road and stored inside his garage for decades. We pulled it out of hiding and cleaned it inside and out. The old decayed carpeting and mats were removed for you to see the solid condition of the front, rear & trunk floor pans that only have several area's of rust and 1 patch on the drivers side front floor.

The cars 2-tone blue body is mostly complete with all of it's sheet metal, trim & glass. It is fairly clean and straight and not wrecked, rusty, full of holes or bondo. The hood, trunk & doors open, close & latch correctly. The clear window glass is original and in good condition including the front and back windows. However 3 of the door windows are cracked and need to be replaced.

The frame is clean and straight having no rust thru or scale and appears to have never been wrecked, repaired or welded.

The 2-tone blue vinyl interior is dried out, split & cracked but the seat frames & springs are clean and solid. The dash board, gauges and steering column are in nice original condition but the original radio and steering wheel have been changed.

Under the hood rests a complete original 270 Red Ram Poly V-8 Engine connected to a 2-Speed Powerflite Automatic Transmission. I removed the thermostat, flushed out the motor & radiator and installed new hoses. I did an electrical tune up and then disconnected the gas tank and attached an auxiliary tank. The motor started instantly, runs good and does not leak any fluids or overheat However the entire exhaust system from the manifolds back was previously removed and the car now sounds loud. The dash controlled 2-speed automatic transmission has good clean fluid but will not jump into any gear because the shifting cable is frozen up and will not release the push buttons to change between the gears and is stuck in neutral. The car currently rolls, steers & runs but has no brakes and doesn't shift into gear.

This Dodge 4-Door Sedan is a great restoration project or will make a good start for a Rat Rod, Resto Mod or Custom Car. This Coronet is mostly complete from bumper to bumper with the exception of not having 2 of the original steel rims and it's 4 hubcaps.

If you have been searching for one of these neat old 1950's Mopar Finned Cars then here is your opportunity. This vehicle comes with a clean clear Pennsylvania title that is ready to be transferred into your name.

If you are seriously interested, you just need to call me and we will talk about the car which is stored in Uniontown, Pa.

Interesting that it had the D500 badges front and rear but the current engine is listed as a 270 poly (which is the base Coronet V8). So either it was a D500 car and the engine was previously purloined *OR* it was always a 270 poly car and somebody back in the day thought it would be cool to add D500 badges.

I've seen worse for more money. The transmission story requires further investigation.

Price lowered to $3000. Worth looking into the D500 status.
