Subject: Wheel Studs

Good day, Does anyone know the Length and Knurls size for R.H. Rear wheel studs for my 56 Dodge Custom Royal with 11" drums. Part book lists 687.901

Protruding thread length is 1.00" What I need to know the Diameter of the knurl and the length of the knurled part.

Thank Dave, I saw those but I want to make sure of the knurl size (Diameter and length). I have one stud the threads are a little iffy. I don’t want to pull drum and press the stud out and then have the wrong one.

If anyone has replaced their wheel studs and made a note of these dimensions, I would appreciate your help.

When I was on the bench, we replaced drums regularly. Cut the stud off as close to the surface as possible, hit it with the grinder to knock of the Burr’s and press them out. Can’t remember how they went back in but it may come to me. I was in my 20’s now I’m in my 80’s.

I remember our shop foreman saying to the customer “who do you think you are, the railroad, running steel on steel”.

Location: Chuckanut Mountain, Washington		Go to the Dorman website and look up the stud by the number provided in the above ebay auction. There are dimensions listed. I did that when looking for studs for my '61.

Not sure if Del found his stud info but I was curious so I went to the Dorman website as suggested and entered 1956 Dodge Custom and wheel stud and this is what I got back:

Yes they will work. I order this number and measured the knurled portion. Using a 0-1.000" micrometer they measure from 0.623 - 0.625" which with a big swinging press should go in. From What info I have found online and measure on the O.E. stud they were 0.622" All will be Right hand on my car in the spring. Chryslers thinking on Left Hand on the left side was ?????. they may have thought it might be more difficult to steel the wheels if the thief was a dumb ass and could only think Right.

Location: Alaska		This has been said before, I believe Chrysler engineers thought L/H threads on the left side were less likely to loosen when driving. I have never had a properly tightened lug nut loosen but I suppose it could happen.
