What kind of tail light socket does the 58 Plymouth Belvedere come with? The 1 on the driver’s side has 3 wires and the 1 on the passenger’s side is a 2 wire light socket. Which is correct?
Thanks in advance!

The third wire is just a ground wire that connects the socket base to the trunk floor to complete ground contact. Required because the housing is rubber insulated. Those unique sockets with the side tabs are hard to find! Yes, the three wire sockets are correct!!

BTW. To be correct, the wires to the side tabs are yellow and gather together at the left side and terminate with a self tapping screw in the trunk floor.

Just looking for a little more detail on the yellow ground wires. Mine appear correct where they attach to the spade coming off of the socket base. Then someone spliced in a new piece with those plastic coated connectors on the end and had them attached to the screws that hold the tail light assemblies in place.

Does anyone have a photo of the wires with the factory original connectors and where they were screwed to the trunk floor? Just trying to restore as accurately as possible.

Thanks,
Shawn

Get a new piece of 18ga yellow wire. Crimp a spade connector to one end and a small eyelet to the other end. For extra credit, use heat shrink to cover the crimps.

Drill a small hole in a non-visible place in the trunk floor area and attach with a sheet metal screw. I'm sure there isn't an exact location where the hole was drilled.

Thanks Ron,

Based on other connectors in the car, I'm assuming the correct connectors will be the open barrel type as shown in the following photos, before and after crimping.

That’s what I have on one of my rear brake light sockets. That gets grounded on the trunk floor.
