Expert Posts: 1876 | . The VIN: 7512312650 7 = Dodge Lancer 5 = Lancer 170 Station Wagon 1 = 1961 Model Year 2 = Hamtramck Assy 312650 = Consecutive Unit Number The Tag: SO 0922 = Scheduled on September 22, 1960 NUMBER 9626 = 26th car built that day BDY 756 = Dodge Lancer (7); 170 (5); 4 Door Station Wagon (6) TRM 255 = Red Vinyl Upholstery PNT WW1 = Paint Snow (White); Paint Scheme Monotone (1) A very little info about letter optional codes, but still: A7 = 287 = Torqueflite Transmission used with L6 Engine (A1 option would be manual trans) B2 = 302 = Power Brakes Not sure for E5, but I guess that would be a Power Tail Gate Window 305 (Heater 315 or Accessory Group maybe too) No idea for S2; it is might be an Outside Left Mirror with Manual Control 382 Z3 = Variable Speed Windshield Wipers and Windshield Washer 513, probably… Hope this helps

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Congratulations on the Lancer wagon purchase. I own one as well, except a 770 version. It's odd though because mine was built at the same plant, but has a lightly stamped 77 at the beginning of the VIN, whearas yours has fully formed numbers there. I wonder why they were stamped differently. Yours is also a very early production. You can see what I have done with mine here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=54790

Member Posts: 19 Location: Vancouver, British Columbia | Ah, the car's not mine; it belongs to a friend in Argentina and I'm helping him out. I sold my '62 Lancer and 30-year accumulation of parts and accessories into Australia a couple years ago. I dig your white-over-blue '61 wagon! Nicely built and thoughtfully upgraded; the only quibble I'd raise is with your crankcase ventilation setup, assuming it's still the same as shown in the pics. That's a different discussion for a different thread, though. :-) Edited by slantsixdan 2021-09-28 5:21 PM
