I hope someone here can help me. A few months ago my push-button heat/ac control on my '59 Imperial stuck. With great effort, I was able to extract it from the dash and send it off for a rebuild at Forward Look Parts. They did a great job. The switch was nearly impossible to re-install, but somehow I managed to get it in there, but I realized that when I went to hook up the wires that the '59 shop manual is wrong. The color codes they give do not match exactly the colors of my loose wires, and there is a two=prong jumper wire that does not seem to be clearly recorded in the shop manual schematic. I realize now that I should have tried to mark the wires or to take a picture, but you really cannot see under the dash the way the switch is mounted--you just have to feel. I thought i would just use the shop manual to rewire.
My question is this: If I put the wires back the way the look like they go on the switch, and I am wrong will it fry the switch? Does anyone have a photo or schematic that is correct to share? Everything is hooked back up and ready to go except connecting these wires. I am hoping that if the wires are wrong the switch just will not work and I can keep trying until everything does, but I want to make sure of that.

Location: So. Cal | Try using an ohm meter to figure out which line is grounded, and compare that to your diagram. The process of elimination can take you a long ways.

| HI, I may be able to try that, but the fuse panel and other things have to be suspended to be able to reach the wires in question. I am not sure I can put fire to them to perform the test, but I agree this is probably the smartest was to go!

Location: Northen Virginia | Rex, they are probably only 3 wires. One is hot ,and the other 2 are Hi and low fan speed. If that the case you can flip them until you get them right. Would not burn anything... |

Location: Northen Virginia | If you can do the test with the wires themselves before connect them them to the switch. Only connect two at the time!! |
