Extreme Veteran Posts: 339 Location: Wisconsin | I am looking to recreate a package tray for my '59 Fireflite Sportsman that is currently missing one. All I have are remnants of the piece above the seat with the "Fireflite" emblem and the pad that goes below the cardboard piece. I do have that vinyl strip of backing material new from SMS, so what I need is the large cardboard tray and figure out how to cut and assemble everything. Has anyone recreated one of these before that can describe the process? Is the vinyl above the seat stitched to the cardboard? Glued? Is there a support under the vinyl? I am looking for factory-correct accuracy, so the more details and photos the better. References of originals in '59 DeSotos would also help. I did find some good references for the cardboard material here: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=34004

Extreme Veteran Posts: 339 Location: Wisconsin | I have the material figured out (need to still purchase), templates, and color. Now I'm wondering how this was originally held into place. I know there are two buttons that stick through but does anything else retain the package tray cover, such as an adhesive? Also, how is the strip above the rear seat (containing the "Fireflite" emblem) retained on the bottom edge? Is is it pinched by the seat top or??? Below are photos I was sent of an original '59 Adventurer tray and kick panels for reference. The same guy has an unrestored Fireflite Sportsman (also shown) and his comments were that the Adventurer is vinyl-covered cowlboard while the Fireflite is colored cowlboard. The last photo is of my car before it sat for 30 years outside and baked away the entire package tray. Extreme Veteran Posts: 339 Location: Wisconsin | In addition to my previous question regarding additional retention methods (glue, etc.), does anyone know where to get the proper fasteners that go on the deck cover? It looks like it could be these two parts from page 129 of the Restoration Specialties catalog, but it's hard to tell. Mine are missing completely. https://www.restorationspecialties.com/assets/pdfs/2020_PDF_Catalog_... Extreme Veteran Posts: 339 Location: Wisconsin | Thanks Bernie. They look like they might be a match to clip number 990302, hard to say for sure though. (1959 Package Tray Clip.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1959 Package Tray Clip.jpg (67KB - 77 downloads)
