I watched this Nick's Garage video (for the 2nd or 3rd time) today regarding a 241 Red Ram from a 1954 Dodge Pace car and Nick's comment about how bad the stock cast manifolds were got me to thinking about headers.

This video (you too can scream at the screen telling Nick that the secondaries stopped working after the first pull):

Anyway, back to the headers, I know the right side probably wouldn't be an issue but the left side probably would be - certainly for me with Coaxial "Full Time" power steering.

Sanderson's 315-325 (and 241 and 270) header:

In any event, a bit pricey:

The 5" "width" might be too wide. (???)

I tried a set of these on my 55 Dodge 270 Hemi and the collectors dumped right over the tie rod and I couldn't angle the collector pipe enough to weld a pipe to it. They offered to send me a set that had t he collector not welded so I could angle the connector( use JB weld to hold it in position and send it back to them to weld), how ever I was in a hurry and just put the stock manifolds back on. Goodluck!

Thanks for the reply Ernie. Does your sweet 55 have Power Steering and if so, do you remember if there was clearance between the left header and that huge coaxial steering gear box?

Here are a couple of photos showing the issues with my 56 D500 exhaust manifolds. I can see the issue regarding the tie rods on the passenger side Ernie. For the left side, it seems impossibly tight with that coaxial steering box. In taking these photos I see that the left side manifold is PN 1634 446 and mine was cast on 4-16-56 and actually is flagged as <500>. I had never noticed that before.

A different view of the Passenger Side Exhaust manifold (PN 1532 892-1 (Same as the 1955 270 hemi) showing the downpipe connection and the PN. No mention of "500" (because they just reused the 270 manifold - which is weird):

darn, that is tight at the box!!
I would expect a need to 'modify' the shorty as the photo seems to show a fairly generous radius right off of the flange.
