Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10238 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . This is from our roving reporter, Del S. (aka Dels56, who is staying warm (hot) and dry (real dry) in Arizona while those of us left in British Columbia are trying to buy lumber to build our Arks . "I was at ood Guys today at Westworld in Scottsdale over 3000 classic cars, trucks and a bunch of rods. I am totally disappointed with the number of Mopar. We were there at 9:30AM and left at 3:30. Six hours of walking up and down the rows of cars. They do not have designated areas for makes or model so you have to walk and walk and.... I will send you the photos one at a time of the FL Mopar as I go through my photos. One 300B and one 55 Desoto - 331 hemi, auto, a beautiful frame off resto. I spoke to the owner, he has 7 cars and is selling the Desoto for US$39,500.00. He has a 57 Fury and 70s stuff. There was not one other 50 or 60 vintage. I counted about 25 1970 vintage. Not a Scamp in the bunch. But the money these people spend on restoring is unreal. If and when I see him again I will let him know he is missing a cube. Del S Trust an engineer who is forced to do the math. (Me) Remember the car in question is a 1955 Fireflite. Checking the brochure info and Willem Weertman's Engine book, the dimensions of the 1955 Desoto Fireflite hemi are 3.720" bore and 3.344" stroke. So if displacement = (Pi/4) x bore x bore x stroke x no. cylinders the answer is 0.7854 x 3.72 x 3.72 x 3.344 x 8 = 290.75 cubic inches (Weertman says "291 cu in" on page 139 of his book.) For 1956, the stroke was upped to 3.80" and the nominal displacement went to 330 cu in. Hope that helps. Del, be gentle when you break the news (You might find out that he actually has a 56 330 engine in there instead of the 55 291) Edited by 56D500boy 2021-11-22 1:39 AM | ||
