Elite Veteran Posts: 1157 Location: D-70199 Heslach | I would now like to pursue a Headliner of 57/58 300s that is unusual for me. Usually 57/58 300s have the same crosswise Headliner as 57/58 2-door Fireflite's or NewYorker's. But I have discovered lengthwise Headliner that differ from this (my) knowledge. Here in the forum thread "http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66499&" Dave (finsruskw) even speaks of "optional cardboard 3 pc. Headliner". Is that really an option, in this case is that headliner option visible in the cowl tag? The book says that the headliner in the D is standart in 57.... but I never seen such a headliner in a 57' 300 ---- And another book says the opposite. They say the three piece headliner is standard in 58, as long if available. Otherwise they use the 57 crosswise headliner. I am a bit confused. Is that three piece cardboard headliner standard or option, in 57 or 58....and why there are NONE visible 300's except here in this second book....?? Are there any expert here, Wayne,- Ron? Expert Posts: 2289 Location: Eastern Iowa | My D had one like that, but they got very fragile with age and were prone to crack/sag & break with age. I still have pieces of it. The plastic retaining strips did the same. I'll bet they were really sharp when new!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | yeah you would have to have that commissioned or something. Change it to vinyl cross ways. Im sure the cardboard headliners were cheaper and easier to install but honestly a "cardboard" headliner? Car reviewer sites rarely went into "fit and finish" much because they were nice to all vehicles because they didnt want to get black balled so they soft balled car "reviews". But could you imagine a car company put cardboard in as a headliner? Chevys and some older dodge trucks still get hammered for using plastic dashs for so long

Two things: 1. A working link to Dave Ss old For Sale: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66499& 2. Many modern cars use cloth headliners. *BUT* the cloth is glued to a pre-formed cardboard/fibreglass headliner base. So I think cardboard back in the day was an innovation. Not necessarily a totally successful one, but it might have been an improvement on a cloth sail held up by wires. Just a thought.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1157 Location: D-70199 Heslach | Thanks for all the replies. But it don't answer my question. Is the headliner up on the thread an option or an replacement if was not available on assembly line that days. In case it was an option,- what number stamped on the cowl tag. It the car the only survivor with that unusual headliner,- and all the other restored 300C/D convert to the usual crosswise headliner....?

Expert Posts: 2289 Location: Eastern Iowa | Where did I read what? What I posted was in response to the link to my D for sale ad posted by D500boy. I have no clue as to what has happened to Jack's car since he died. Edited by finsruskw 2021-12-22 9:59 AM

Location: Under the X in Texas | No 300C ever came with the cardboard "front-rear" headliner. ALL were vinyl. Is NO ONE here a member of the 300 Club to get information from the "intelligentsia"? I left them many years ago.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1157 Location: D-70199 Heslach | Thanks Wayne I know you are THE expert in 300C, but my hope was that you would know 300D as well By the way,: the caption in the first book on page 39 is nonsens if the cardboard "front-rear" headliner never came on any 57 300, if I understand Wayne correctly
