Location: Upstate NY | I am debating with myself about sending my cam out to be ground. I am hoping you can tell me if it’s necessary as so many builders do. I have mic’ed all the lobes and they are all at the same height. I am rebuilding the entire engine and will install all new lifters. It is a stock engine and in a sedan that won’t be driven a lot. The engine ran great except burned oil when it ran last. Is it necessary to grind the cam to get the correct lifter spin? Or will new lifters suffice? Any advice or experience out there to help? |

Location: Branson, MO | My advise is if everything checks out on the camshaft, not going to be driven all that much, and not looking for high performance, don’t waste your money.
Put it together correctly and use an additive (cam lube) to break it in with new lifters and you’ll be fine.

Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | Bob, new lifters on an old cam is risky at best, if quiet before tear down, check the contact surface with a straight edge, if ok, put them back on the same lobe, very important.
