Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | Anyone think of something they want molded? Im going to mold the 57 D500 (in order to make a DXXX molding of whatever i want, and the regal lancer(so they can be made gold) They can be chrome painted. I was also thinking about the 58 Plymouth fury fender ornaments. I was also thinking about making the fin antennas... They would be instantly ready for chrome painting and perfect. At least it was for me. The mold making isn`t straightforward either..there is a lot of different compounds of silicone to choose between.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | I have done some but that was while I was building my dodge. I made a mold for the speedo bezel (surround) for the 60 plymouth dash and did one cast from it. I had problems with air bubbles and the mold leaking but it did mostly work. I wasnt using the resin (plastic) that I would actually use if I made the part to sell as it was quite brittle. I used what I was going to make lenses out of. I recently found the mold and once I finish cleaning out my garage, I will have another go at it. As for chroming, if I do make any to sell, it will be up to the buyer to do that if they want, or maybe chrome paint

Expert 5K+ Posts: 5006 | not really, a mold is much easier and faster and can handle the detail. Some things are usable.
