Thanks there Mike,
0k So .. one shouldered edge of the stainless trim slips in the rubber lip & the other shouldered trim edge secures and clamps over the rubbers very edge ?
Any tools involved if the rubber edge has expanded somewhat past the shouldered edge that tucks under the stainless trim ?
...Or is it all done by hand ? seems there could be a knack to do this

2 pics attached..

one is showing the underside of the top rear windscreen stainless trim which has a wider shouldered lip.

The 2nd pic shows the rear top windscreen rubber where ive part there-of pulled out the top lip of the rubber and rested it on the bottom rubber lip..

Ìf i put the larger shouldered trim edge into that top rubber i pulled out ..the otherside of the trim edge hits against the white roof paint work...was i not suppose to expose the upper rubber lip?

Be hard to get that trim in ..if not.

..and in the pic the lip rubber on bottom looks bigger than the top lip but its not..both rubber lips are as wide as each other. That lip runs dead center of the complete windscreen rubber.

Thanks in advance..

The bent part of the molding goes inside the lock lip of the weatherstrip, hence the molding will not cover the rubber completely. It's a pain to get it in - you could try with silicone. The side moldings are the worst to fit.

Ok yeah ,, if u look at the pic it looks like there is a brown residue of silicone when it was fitted in the factory back in 58'..

soO... the upper rubber lip i pulled out is where i would slide the wider shoulder of the trim..?

then once ive Run & positioned the total length of the long trim piece along the upper lip, i would then need to pry out the lower rubber lip & then tamper it down so it overlaps the bottom trim edge ??
...or just leave it to sit there as is ??
If the other latter method is correct.. i wish to tell you this rear rubber isnt fresh , it has some cracking in places and will ultimately copping a beating !!

Then again, ..Maybe i should run some gelatine mixed with a little water to make a paste..rub that onto the complete rear rubber and leave for 24hrs...that apparently softens & re-news rubber..

i got showed that little trick from a fellow 58 plymouth owner 25 yrs ago when i gave my 57 buick its maiden run after its complete resto..

Some of his rubbers were so dry & frayed they turned to dust when you slightly touched them..i couldnt believe how new & shiney & re-rubberized they looked and felt after the cake powder gelatine application.

gelatin paste works that well? yeah give it a try, these seals are expensive but obtainable still.

Let me know the mix.

There are soaking kits with alcohol, methly silicate(wintergreen) and diamethicone.

Thanks ! Once i run the large shoulder of the trim along the upper lip it just remains there from the look of that pic.
The gelatine mix ratio is just add a little water till it forms into a paste that you can work with.. then again i could use canuba car wax to help slide n guide that trim rather than silicone or i could use a little silicone brake fluid..but i will firstly rub some black urethane into the cracks that have developed in the rubber from ageing and leave it to set before attempting to run the trim into the rubber..that urethane sets like rubber once it cures

There is no way one can enter the rubber from the curve of the trim as it lifts up once you reach the straight of the trim... theres gotta be a knack to it... anyone ?

show a pic, the top piece goes on(lip hooks/slips in), then you can go for sides(they hook in also). then you put the one on the bottom(screws) then the lower side caps(screws).

I have always hated those upper moldings....if the molding has got a little bent it is impossible to make it stay in the groove. I have done things nobody
should to make them stay on. Custom nail in clips , polyuretane glueing etc.

So do i set the stainless molding up against the rubber lip & push the molding upward toward the roof trying to insert the rubber lip..
Or...
Do i run the molding from one end sliding the molding along the rubber lip towards the other end ? (This method does not allow the rubber to remain in the curved end of the molding) if this top molding was straight & wasnt curved either end this wouldnt be a challenge..

Thanks again Mike , Yep resting the top molding up against the rubber it spoons the same.. so obviously the straight length of the molding gets tucked in with the rubber lip first ..then each curved end of the molding tucks in last.. kool !
