I’m having trouble identifying the various connection terminals on my 56 dodge headlight switch. There are 7 terminals identified as follows: A, B, H, P, T, IG, and IN. I don’t know which circuits go to each terminal as the factory service manual differs from what I have on the switch, or at least I think it does. Can anyone help me sort this out please? Thanks!

The manual transmission and automatic transmission headlight switches are different in 1955 and 1956 Dodges. I only know the one for the automatic transmission.

This is what I know (I hope it helps):

Thank you for the information. Do you still have the switch as shown in your pictures? I’m trying to determine which wires go to which terminals. For example do the three red wires attach to terminal A or B? I sincerely appreciate your help on this.

Here is my spare 56 Dodge with Automatic transmission headlight switch annotated:

Starting from T and going around clockwise (remember that I have no idea why there is a mixture of vinyl and cloth-covered wires):

T = a black vinyl insulated wire with a spade connector

IN = Red cloth-covered wire with a spade connector

H = white(ish) cloth-covered wire with one black stripe with a spade connector

B= white(ish) cloth-covered wire with two black stripes with a ring terminal under a nut on a threaded post

A = three reddish or red and white vinyl-covered wires, two with ring terminals under a nuts on a threaded post plus one with a male bullet connector coming in on a female bullet connector

IGN(?) - Blue vinyl covered wire with a spade connector

P = white or yellow vinyl covered wire with a spade connector.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much! What you’ve provided is perfect. I rescued my 56 from what was the beginning of a rat rod project. A bit of body torture had been started as well as some disassembly. Fortunately the previous owner still had all the removed items so the car was complete. It’s all back to together and the wounds have had corrective surgery. Recently began rewiring with a Painless harness only to reach a road block at the headlight switch. Your much appreciated assistance is going to eliminate the roadblock. I can’t thank you enough!
