Veteran Posts: 143 Location: Lidköping,Sweden | Anyone know when production of the Plymouth 60 started. In a movie about the inauguration of a gas station, they claim that it was filmed on October 1, 1959. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPFZeZl4T2A Edited by moparranch 2022-02-13 8:59 AM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9904 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Another question would be "When was the last 1959 Plymouth made?" Typically that would be sometime in August, leaving the rest of August and early September for the transition between model years. What could complicate the answer to your question is the fact that 1960 Plymouths were built in four different plants. Each would likely have its own start date, depending on the time and difficulty transitioning from 1959 to 1960 production. There is a rare Opel P2 coupe (nicknamed "Der rasende Kofferraum/the racing Trunk") in it and AFAIK the P2s were introduced in August of 1960. Not sure about the coupe, maybe later but not earlier.

Expert Posts: 1287 | Lads -- I don't know if this is of any help to you, but my '60 Fury, VIN 3307103760, has a shipping date on the build record of 10-25 from the St Louis plant. According to Darrell Davis' book on the '60 SonoRamics, twenty other ram cars from St. Louis have lower VINs. The car itself is somewhat of an anomaly in that while it is a documented ram car, it does not have the removable panels in the fender wells, it has the early ball-joint carb linkage, it's engine compartment is all flat black rather than body color (Twilight Blue Metallic), and it has the 1959 model swivel seats. As such, it may well have been a factory "mule" or perhaps had experienced some sort of damage before shipment which required some sort of repair at the factory before it was sent to Bill Goodro's Plymouth City in Denver. I don't know the VIN of it though. I'll have to look next time I go over there. I was told the access panels also allowed them to do the body drop on the assembly line over the complete engine on the chassis subframe. Edited by NicksGarage 2022-02-14 12:58 PM

I was told the access panels also allowed them to do the body drop on the assembly line over the complete engine on the chassis subframe. As mentioned in a Sonoramic road test in a 1959 magazine, the early cars didn't have them. My guess is the complaints from the dealers forced them to modifie the inner fenders, and from what I heard, it looks more like a home build mod.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 471 Location: MN | New cars started hitting dealer inventory late Aug, new car showing was about mid-late Sep. It took time to ramp up new dealer stock. The access holes on inner fender are to have better access to spark plugs from under the car. I have a 60 Phoenix D500 ram induction car
