I'm finally almost finished converting to power steering. Just wondering how the hoses were routed or if there was anything to secure them to the inner fender.

Thanks,

Yes, that metal transition point had a clamp that secured it to the inner fender.

Shawn: Do you happen to remember what the specs are on the end of your new PS hose that goes into the PS box?

I am trying to find out without disassembling my car (56). So far the flare nut at the box seems to be 5/8" and the tubing size seems to about 1/4". What I don't know is the thread pitch on the flare nut.

Thanks for confirming there was a clamp Nathan.

Does anyone have a photo of what the clamp looks like and dimensions if it's something I can fabricate? I know I'm fussy but I want to get it as close to factory specs as possible.

Dave, my pressure line has a 5/8 nut also and appears to be 1/4" tubing. I bought an NOS hose so I didn't have to bother with the fitting specs. I used to work in the pop business and it looks a lot like what we used to call "Coke 5/16 flare" but I can't say for sure. Power steering may have it's own unique thread because of the high pressure.

It looks like I was wrong. I have 3 very original cars to look at and none of them have that clamped down. It's just lying on top of the return hose.

However, I could have swore that I saw one on my cars. So I checked my pink '58 Firedome and found it. Then looking at my other Firedome I found the remnants of a broken clamp & the bolt that holds it. Both of my '58 Fireflites also have the remnants or holes for that clamp. However, my '57 New Yorker doesn't have it. It doesn't have the hole either. And it doesn't look like there is any place for a clamp on my '58 Coronet either. The clamp that does exist on it is holding the electrical harness and is too close to the box to do any good. So I guess the answer is it depends on the car. I would expect a Plymouth to be the same as the Dodge, so no clamp on it.

Thanks for the additional information Nathan. I did some additional checking also. It's tough to find good photos on the web where you can see the hoses. I found one of a very original 58 Fury still in the rough and there was no evidence of a clamp. Then I thought of checking my 59 Windsor parts car and it had one. I'll try posting a photo from my phone. I checked the same area on the Plymouth and there are no holes. I'd think if a clamp was used on the ps cars the hole would be stamped in all inner fenders for ease of assembly. Also, maybe it was inconsistent from one plant to another. Mine was built in LA.
