Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | He gets an award for the funkiest looking sway bar I have ever seen. It looks like the frame may have a front clip welded to it, otherwise, why put the steering box way up there? Nothing if they used a 55 Dodge dash or a 56 Manual transmission dash: (55DodgeDashWithLightSwitchOnFarLeftAndShifterInTheDash.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 55DodgeDashWithLightSwitchOnFarLeftAndShifterInTheDash.jpg (155KB - 47 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9899 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Powerflite - 2022-04-14 11:26 AM Anyone recognize the lower control arms? Based on my Covid viewing of DD Speed Shop on Youtube over the past 2 years and Dan's work on Tri-5 Chevy's, guess that the lower control arms on the 56 Dodge wagon were Tri-5 aftermarket stuff. You can also see the ball joint stuff at the bottom of the steering knuckle. Not sure what the welded tab is that shows on the frame. (Maybe that whole front cross member is Tri-5). This link confirms my first guess (I think): https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1955-57-Chevrolet-Full-Size-Tubular-U...

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | So what are the functions that he removed when he put those vents into the dash? Good guess on the suspension, but those lower control arms aren't quite the same. Some GM product though, is very likely. S10 truck might be a good guess, based on the steering box design. Check out the bend on those springs! That can't be healthy! Edited by Powerflite 2022-04-14 7:53 PM

Elite Veteran Posts: 625 Location: Lubbock, TX | Far Left pod is the Lights control on 1955 Dodge, 2nd from the right is ashtray, and far right is clock. What's interesting is the two levers on either side of the column. On all my 56 dodges, the Cool-Warm air control is on the left, and the Off-Park-On Light control is on the right of the column. On this wagon, those are inverted. Here's a million dollar question: How do you shift the transmission in that wagon? No column or floor shift, no pushbutton pod, and no sign of any modern touchscreen transmission controller. I have three possible shift ideas, they could be using one of the knobs above the right gauges as kind of an Park Drive Reverse switch where you just choose a direction for the transmission. Or it's controlled with that left Off-Park-On switch which used to control headlights, but now shifts the 4l60e? Or it's controlled with that remote mounted to the radio, but I think that's just a remote for the radio. Quite the mystery resto mod!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9899 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Powerflite - 2022-04-14 4:30 PM So what are the functions that he removed when he put those vents into the dash? Nothing too important (see below). What I am curious about is a) why did the heater and defrost fan switches (and knobs) were deleted on the left hand lower panel? b) why the extra (or relocated) switches in the middle of the instrument panel (above the OE clock and ash tray location) and c) where is the shifter for the Chevy auto trans? It must be hidden (??) Other interesting bits include the cold air intake for the Edited by 56D500boy 2022-04-15 4:13 PM (56DodgeInstrumentPanel_small.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56DodgeInstrumentPanel_small.jpg (222KB - 46 downloads)

Elite Veteran Posts: 625 Location: Lubbock, TX | If my guess is correct, the car now has a Vintage Air style HVAC system, in which case it can do both AC and Heat. So the factory knobs were redundant? I certainly would've done things differently. The shifter question is a big one. I think I'll reach out to the selling dealer and try and get some clarification on that. ~Peter

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | I would guess that he's using the '55 style cable shift mechanism, only, with the '56 style lever. He also has an extra knob between the old clock & ashtray. I wonder what it's purpose is?
