So our reverse lights are constantly staying on, no matter what position the push button transmission controller is in. I was told that the switch for the back up lights is on the push button controller. Is there anything I should know prior to unscrewing the unit from the dash?

Thanks,

Brian

In 1957 they put the reverse light switch on the left side of the shifter box, like this:

Once you remove the shifter face plate and buttons (just pull them straight out), you will see two nuts that are holding the shifter box to the dash. Remove those nuts and maneuver the shifter box towards the back of the dash and down. You should be able to see the reverse light switch when you get the shifter box down (no need to disconnect the shifter cable)

Seems like theDodge version you have to pull it out from the front. I was able to get the assembly out cad enough and spray some electrical contact cleaner into it and got it freed up again. I also put silicone spray on the levers to help the stay free and cleaned up the buttons while I had it out. Before I put it all back together, I put a matching LED bulb into the socket to match the rest of the gauges.

Thanks again for the help. It was a lot easier than what I had thought.

Great news. What LED bulb did you put in there?

That said, I am surprised that the shifter box had to come out of the front. My assumption was that after you removed the two Phillips screws that hold the shifter button
plate to the housing, you would remove the plate, and then the buttons, and then you would see the two nuts that hold the shifter box to the cosmetic shifter housing.
Removing the nuts should have allowed you to slip the shifter box out the back.

But if what you did worked, good on you. And good for you to clean and lube what you could while it was out.

I just found these photos on eBay for a 58 Dodge shifter and they make sense to me.

Yup. Exact same as the one that is in our car. I’ll try and get you the bulb number the next time I have my paperwork out.
