Location: Ramona, CA | I went through this carburetor for the 1961 Belvedere and the accelerator pump system seems to be missing something or something isn't right. It's not pumping enough gas on throttle tip in. I didn't lose any parts and put it back together the way it was before. I should have taken pictures when it was apart but basically there is one long conical spring above the accelerator pump inside the housing. When you let off the throttle, it only slightly lifts the pump shaft. Do I need to bend the rod on the linkage to get more throw? Or is there something missing? There are several grooves on the shaft above and below the top.
I can't find any exploded view of this particular design of accelerator pump. And the instructions that came with the kit didn't mention any adjustments. I'd buy another carb for parts if someone has one that has any parts I'm missing.

I don't know if makes much difference but I see at least 3 different (??) Stromberg 2 bbls listed for 1961 318s on page 4-19 of the 1961 Mopar parts catalogue.
WW15-43 for Standard trans RP2 cars built in Newark and LA
WW15-44 for Auto trans RP2s built in Newark and LA
WW15-45 for "All" transmissions built in LA
Searching for rebuilt kits with the Carburetor Dr. shows kits with no accelerator pump springs (as in they apparently don't ever break (as if))

Good luck

it has been quite a while since I have had a stromberg 2 barrel carb apart but I am pertty sure that there is a small check ball in the accelerator circuit
if it is not in place it will back flow into the bowl instead of up into the the accelerator nozzel where it should, I think that there were 2 check balls in that carb
location I am not sure of unless I had one infront of me I can open one up if you cannot get it figgured out. |

If you're still looking to purchase another 2-barrel carb I have one that was removed from a 1961 318 motor.
PM sent with details. |
