Hi to all.
I need to replace a couple of stud in my rear drums. 1956 Dodge Custom Royal w/ 11" Drums, Front and Rear. I have replace the fronts with AAJ conversion but retained the drums on the rear. I have looked everywhere for stud bolt with no success. The fun part is, they are press-in, non serrated. Dorman show a Press-in #610-036 with a 0.645" knurl. I don't know why they list it as "knurl" when the state "non serrated". I have knocked one out of a front drum and the Non Serrated area measures 0.632/0.633" diameter. Anyone have any ideas where these might be found.

If all else fails, I will knock the studs out of the front drum (salvaged when converting to front discs) and reuse them. I would prefer new.

OOPS. Should say 315 Poly

Thank you Expert 5K+, I just finished reading a post on.....https://forums.aaca.org/topic/279200-1950-dodge-coronet-wheel-studs/ and found someone who, a few year ago, used those very studs with satisfaction. I'm north of the border in B.C. NAPA Canada list them at C$4.29 ea. I have not received a reply from the Dorman Dealer as to their price.

Del: When I checked out the Dorman site last night and asked what was the closest source of the studs to 98281 (Point Roberts), the Dorman website pointed to Lordco in Tsawwassen BC (just back on the Canadian side). I took it from that that Lordco might have them in their system.

I picked up 6 Dorman 610-036 studs yesterday at our local Bumper to Bumper auto parts supplier. Less than 2 buck each including tax. I will test installing one in a spare dum I have in the not so good pile before pulling the drum off the car.

Today I went a bit further with my obsession of replacing wheel studs as the day was cool, wind and raining. I took another old drum and cut the O.E. swedge out with a 5/8" metal cutting hole saw that just fits over the 1/2" stud. Then I removed the 5 studs one at a time with a 2 pound swinging press. I don't have a hydraulic shop press. I had first checked with 2 auto repair shops, neither of which wanted to press the studs out for me. #$%^&. I said it was windy today and I am sure that is the reason I missed the stud with a couple of swings and bent the drum. Not to worry as it was no good anyway. The brake drum and hub are 2 piece not a one piece cast drum so now I have 2 separate pieces on the bench. Every time I look at doing the stud change I get closer to ordering the components from Roger at AAJ and going disc on the rear as I have on the front. I don't know if, when I take all 5 studs out and PRESS them back in, will the drum and hub remain concentric? If I was a drinking man I would head out to a bar and forget my obsession for a while.

Replacing Studs in progress. Left rear coming off, cut the swedge off, press one stud out and one in at a time. No problem. It worked on my sacrificed drum.

A bit of a hold up on getting around to actually finishing the task of replacing the studs on the left rear. Following photos are of my sacrificial drum with one OE stud showing and one new Dorman 610-036. It was easy to press the OE studs out once the swedge was cut off with my friend 10 ton shop press. and just as easy to press the new ones in. We found that I need to make a secial tool for the pressing out task. I will show tools later.
