Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Picked up this 1960 Imperial yesterday. 81179 miles. Stored in a garage since at least 1980 but probably longer. Last service sticker on the door shows spark plugs installed 9-1-72 at 72,656 miles. Dawn Mauve exterior with Mauve interior. Well equpped with front air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power seat, right outside mirror, flight-sweep decklid, and 7 button radio with power antenna and rear speaker. It's a late built car so it has an alternator instead of a generator. Even the little plastic emblems above the headlights are still there. Supposedly parked because engine locked up but the guy I got it from had it cranking over until the starter went out. He pulled the starter. He'd only had it about a month after buying it from the estate. Waiting to hear from the family to get some history but the death certificate shows the owner, who died in 2006, as being a mechanic at a gas station for 45 years. Probably where he would have gotten it. It's a very solid car. Only appreciable rust on it is lower part of trunk lip. Floors, frame, rockers, sheetmetal and trunk are all rock solid. Car had stuff piled on it in garage so paint is scratched all over. All the potmetal on the outside is pitted. Seats have plastic covers and most of the stains look like they are on the covers. I'll leave them on while I work on the car. Going to get it on the lift and put a starter in it and see if I can start it. Gas tank is leaking and it looks like they're out of stock everywhere. I haven't been under there to see if it's the tank or the sender but th gas smell is foul so it will have to be pulled either way. Didn't really need another project but that's how it goes. I'll decide what I'm going to do with it after I try getting it running. Figure the rose / mauve color combo is probably rare and was stunning when new !! It's finds like this that are really solid instead of rusted, when I miss living out in CA... The paint code is RR1 If it was a 2-tone, the number at the end would be 2. Here's what the interior materials would have looked like new. The cloth is faded so no longer matches the vinyl.
