Well she's finally roadworthy so Thelma got to go on her first cruise in to the local Moose. It was just a short trip and she did just fine. She's going to need a trans tailshaft seal, parking brake band and a fuel tank since she's running off of a boat tank in the trunk. Definitely an under 60mph car but that's just fine since she'll be a local driver anyway.

Thanks

Congrats. Looking good.

Based on my understanding of how the trim is attached to doors and fenders in 55-56 with "H" clips, I am betting that you would be able to slide that front fender trim back to close the existing gap with a block of wood (at the front tip) and a rubber mallet. At least that would be what I would try. Maybe with some WD40 lubrication to help the sliding?

As for your standard transmission's rear tail shaft seal, if you don't already have one, its original PN was 670 752 which is available as a more modern National, SKF or Timken for under $10.

If you are a purist, Hiltop has a NOS one for $75.

eBay has some too:

Man, thanks for the info. You just saved me a post later on and thanks for the transmission exploded view. The FSM doesn't address a manual trans at all, only the automatic.

This car has been "worked" on in the past and several of the trim pieces are held on with sheet metal screws. Let's just say that there is plenty of galvanized ducting in this car. I'm afraid that's where the trim will be staying for a while.

Next big task after the seal and E brake will be some sheet metal work under the battery tray and in the trunk. After that she'll get a proper fuel tank.

Thanks

I did that battery tray repair on my Fury as well. It was pretty fun, in hindsight.

Umm....You sure that you have the 55-56 Plymouth FSM available as a download from MyMopar.com? I have it and see pages of manual trans stuff.

Nice, interesting fabric on the seats as well. The 201 body code stands for Savoy, 4dr sedan, and the E is for the Evansville, Illinois assembly plant. Your car was the 2043rd Savoy 4dr sedan built there.

I was ignoring the Standard and only seeing Powerflite and Overdrive, thinking that chapter was only automatic transmissions.

Nice job on your inner fender, that'll be this week for me and then the holes in the trunk.
