Hey Guys, I'm back with another question.

I'm looking for the backup light switch, which I assume should be screwed into the 3 speed manual transmission somewhere. The wiring has been disconnected and is looped around the speedo cable. The wiring has both male plugs on it and is not very long but I cannot find the switch under there for the life of me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I believe it screws into the side cover.

Have a look at this photo that I posted yesterday in my Standard Trans EBrake replacement info post (should be that two pin switch at the end of the front casing) (Somebody might have deleted the switch and put a plug in instead).

PN is 1343 998 (Hiltop and MoparMall have them)

Yep, that's exactly what they did.

Thanks

You have to remember that back-up lights and directional signals were options on the lower priced cars like a Savoy. A Belvedere might have got them as part of the package but for Savoys and Plazas they were likely options. As a result, there might not have ever been a switch there when the car left the factory.

In 1955, these Plymouth option codes were 484 for the Directional Signals and 485 for the Back Up lights (I am not sure if the 56 Plymouth codes for these options were the same or different)

Even then, if there were reverse lights, there were both painted pot metal housings and chromed pot metal housings available, depending on which sub-option (or Model) was selected. Plazas and Savoys were likely to have painted metal housings but Belvederes were likely to have chromed housings.

You might have fun getting that plug out of there.

Good luck.

Yeah, I have backup lights and I have a switch on the way. The plug came out fine and I just made a new gasket and stuck it back in for now.

Thanks

Since someone in the past had run a length of tan telephone wire from the engine compartment to the backup lights, I ran a new length to the back and now I have backup lights. The telephone wire had been cut at one time anyway.

Thanks
