Expert 5K+ Posts: 7206 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Has anyone else had the manual tuner quit working on your old radio? There is a clutch disk inside the radio that the manual tuner uses to change the stations when you rotate the knob. When you use the push buttons, they disengage the clutch. However the clutch disk just slips on this radio ( 1960 Chrysler Golden Tone) when you rotate the knob. Can't change stations manually with it. Anyone know of a fix on it? It looks like you could adjust the pressure on it by bending that metal bracket inward. In fact, I would expect that's why that metal bracket has a slot in it, to make it easier to bend and adjust. Or it may be the other direction, depending on if the shaft is connected to the gears or the outer ring. Edited by Powerflite 2022-08-10 10:38 PM | ||

Veteran Posts: 298 Location: Kalispell, MT USA | To prevent having to do a major disassembly of the chassis, I would try adjusting the clutch for maximum gap, and cut the old rubber disk out. Then make a disk out of cork/rubber gasket sheet with a slit in it and glue it in place of the rubber disk. Then readjust the clutch. Anyway, that's what I'm going to try on my radio in my 64 880. Member Posts: 20 | Many years ago, I took my radio apart because of this very reason. Unfortunately, I didn't get the clutch fixed and the front chrome mount got lost.
