Hi guys,

I have repaired the indicator selector switch and replaced the cancel switch on my '61 Newport.
I now find that my front indicators and cluster indicators lights come on but neither flash.
Rear indicator lights flash.
Old flasher can died and was replaced with a modern one.
Running old style bulbs.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with the modern flasher can.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You either have a bad light bulb, or a flasher that's not compatible (or bad) with your car. Just replaced the flasher on my '59 DeSoto as it was blinking too fast, now it's working great. They were both new but one was working fine, the other not so much. However, in your case it sounds like a bad light bulb scenario, as this is a typical symptom of a malfunctioning bulb. Not getting current through the whole system, so it can't complete the circuit and just stays on instead of blinking

I’ll check my files, theres a possibility that you made a mistake if you opened the switch.

Thanks 59Firedome and Wizard.
I have replaced the flasher can with a new old school thermal one.
I have disconnected the cancel switch which has disconnected the front indicator and cluster lights but rear still working.
I have checked electrical diagram but cannot find the flasher can.
I'm thinking the same think Wizard but want to make sure before I pull it all apart again.

Upon study of a diagram for the internals of the selector switch, it seems I have placed the sliding contact blocks in upside down.
Having them upside down will cause the problem I have.
Will dismantle again tomorrow to confirm.

Yes, it's easy to make that mistake Alex.

Fixed, the blocks were around the wrong way. Happy Days.
