Location: Simi Valley, CA | I have a 55 Dodge which is converted to 12volt. I'm running the 55 blower switch. I just had the A/C System recharged the other day and I took the car to Cruise night and I had the air running the whole way there(very Hot day) just before I shut off the car I touched the blower knob and it was very hot. Should I switch to a 12 volt switch or ? Please Advise!
Thanks

Ernie: Not sure if your blower fan switch is infinitely adjustable or only in steps but in general those switches vary the blower speed by introducing a resistance to limit the current to the blower fan.
That resistance creates heat. The more you throttle the fan down, the more resistance, the more heat that the switch will generate.
You can see the big resistor in this photo:
I think that the 56 Dodge 12V heater switch (which would make sense to me to use) is PN 1627 482. Such a beast is available out there on the internet, including Hiltop Mopar:

Location: Simi Valley, CA | Thanks for the info! I think as a matter of safety i'll probably order the switch. It may have been heating up and I never realized it. I have owned the car for about 30 years, but never had the A/C working as good as it does now. |
