| Looking to convert original front drums(11X2") to more current and serviceable drums that will fit the original 14" rims/ hubcaps. Past posting (2004-06-30 10:22pm) by Dave Anderson (Extreme Veteran) stated 65-70- C body front drums were an option. Can anyone verify this conversion? Do the later drums (11.0" X 2.75") cause issues with tire clearance on the fenders with suspension travel and turning. Does the complete drum assembly fit directly onto the 59 FL spindle? Are there any issues with bearings and seals. Brake parts for 65-70 drums are plentiful and readily available making the car more practical to maintain and dependable (road repairs) to travel in. Any information on this topic would be greatly appreciated. |

*IF* you wanted to move to front discs, Scarebird makes a kit that adapts your car's front spindles to use 77-78 Chrysler Cordoba 11.75" front discs. They sell the brackets and the spindle adapters and a few smaller goodies. You supply the rotors, bearings, calipers and pads, all available from suppliers like RockAuto for fairly reasonable prices.
I bought their kit and am adapting it to 1956 Chrysler front spindles and I quite liked the quality.

My adaptation of their kit (you would NOT have any modifications): http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=76959&...

| Thanks for the detailed information 56D500boy. You put a lot of work effort that assessment and the detailed images are great work. I haven't had any success with establishing the drum brake adaptation. Unless I can source a set of 68 from drums locally to experiment with it looks like a disc conversion for the 59. |

Location: NorCal | The OP is looking for a DRUM upgrade. Since the '59 knuckle (spindle) isn't the same as later cars with a different drum brake, it would be interesting to see if the '65-'70 knuckle he mentioned will fit the '59. |

| If you want to stick with Drum Brakes but want the more modern style Bendix Brakes ,I used the Brakes off a 63-64 Chrysler front and back using the spindles backing plates and Drums on the front ,and the Drums and backing plates on the rear .It’s a much better and simply brake system,I used it on one of My 58 Furys. |
