Question about using 62 transmission in a 61?
Seeing as trans tunnel is much larger in 61.
When using a smaller 62 trans in a 61 does it
leave any odd looking spaces or gaps at firewall?

SB or BB? Either way you'll probably need an adaptor as there were changes in the Bell pattern & crankflange on the SB & I think in the BB also.

The 1962 Torqueflite 727 will not bolt on to the 1961 engine. Crankshaft / flange is completely redesigned.

I know about the difference in 61 and 62 transmissions.
What I’m wondering about is if you use a complete 62 motor and trans in
a 61 is if there is any odd looking gaps or spaces because of the difference
in size of transmission tunnel

I don't think so. At the point where it mounts to the engine, it is the same size. It does taper down faster than the original, but not by enough that you can tell a huge difference from looking at it. Also, you can hardly see back there, even if there was a bigger difference. Looking from underneath, you will notice more differences, but that is unavoidable.

Check the parts books to see if the motor mounts and X members are the same for both models with the same wheel base.

I had 3 sets of mounts, tried on 62 413 and 61 413. One set with the ear facing out on one but not fitting correctly on the other seemed to mount different on block as I remember. Have rebuilt 61 413 with long rams and some extra parts if you lookin would look good in a 61.

The shop I use installed a 1971 440 with its mated 727 in my 61 Chrysler Newport. The 440 dropped right onto the 361 engine mounts in the 61 car. For the trans mount, the shop cut the ends off the mount from the 61 and the mount from the 71 donor car. The kept the center section from the 71 mount that fit the tranny, and welded on the ears from the 61 mount that bolted to the car. The only issue we had with the whole setup is the exhaust manifolds on the 71 would not fit in the 61, we had to use the 361 manifolds. The 440 likes having cross rams on it! We also swapped out the drive line and rear axle from the 71, so the entire drive train from the donor car is now in the 61.
