I've been working on several small and not critical projects today. One of them related to making a "proper" hold down stud. Still not done but will be soon.

Then I realized that I don't have a proper Group 24 hold down frame to go with the existing OE stud (the one attached to the inner fender) and the new one that I am making. I did a quick search and found a frame for a Chevy battery from Danchuk (but the hold downs are a the ends not the sides like 50's Mopars).

So my questions are:

1. Where can I buy a repro Group 24 Mopar style hold down frame?

2. If I went for a Tar Topper at the same time, what colour should I select for the caps? Green? or?

A frame like 57Chizler's:

Or like this Kant-Ker-Rode (out of stock):

Some progress:

1. I found a PICO 861-E Group 24 at one of my local parts suppliers (LORDCO). This is similar to ones available at Summing Racing as a PICO 0855-PT. Both are 10.25" x 6.78" and
the hold down clips can be moved to where you need them (apparently, I haven't tried yet).

2. I contacted Tar Topper via email yesterday and not this AM by phone. No reply yet regarding the preferred colour of the fake caps. Green? Blue? Red?

3. I am "building" a better hold down stud from a 3/8" x 16 threaded J-bolt from Lowes, a 3/8" coupling nut and some 3/8" x 16 Redi-Rod. Should work fine once
I get the length(s) figured out.

The J-bolt:

The coupling nut:

Dave, I did read a post in the last few days were a fellow tested the ammeter load capabilities. As I recall it handles a hundred amps and heated to 95 degrees F. I cannot find that post right now.
My Battery hold down is not perfect so I covered in with black Plasti Dip.
I will let you know once I find my invoice where I bought the hold own posts.

Scott at Tar Topper phoned back. He says Green so I will order Green.

Here is the result of this afternnoon's work. I am okay with the hold down bolt that I've made but I am not exactly happy with the PICO frame. It will work but I think that I would rather have an OE frame that I can clean up and paint.

I did clean up and re-paint under the OE rubber battery tray (which I had done in 2016. It was fine but hey, why not?)

Thanks Chuck. Unfortunately, it will not. It seems to be a No. 6, which must be for the larger Group 27 battery used in the "Senior" cars, not the Group 24 that must use a No. 5.

If I could find a No. 5, I would be happy with that.

I contacted the eBay seller whether he/she had a No. 5 frame.

Me:

"Hey. I have a 56 Dodge the uses a Group 24 battery. I think that would be a No. 5 Walker Bros. Hold Down Bracket. Any chance that you have one for sale?"

Them:

" Unfortunately I don’t have that style available. Thanks"

Me:

Rats.

Picked up and installed a Group 24 "Tar Topper". Quality could be a bit better but the price can NOT be beat (IMO). Looks good (enough).

Installed it and redid my Battery Tender Jr. connections so they are a) less noticeable and b) easier to make the quick connect without opening the hood.

Hope I can remember to disconnect before I back out the garage.

The frame you have there looks pretty good. It was made to be turned 180 degrees, but it looks fine as is.

Based on my most recent photo, I can see why you think that Nathan. However, based on one of my previous photos, there are multiple scallops to accommodate various post locations.

I would purchase a proper 55-56 Group 24 OE hold down frame if I could only find one.

No question a tar topper and a sticker are the way to go, costwise.  The cap colors are a bit mysterious.
