Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | On a 61 300 is there a 300 emblem on drivers side bottom of trunk lid? Like the style on a 62 300. I’ve seen many 61 300 with and without 300 emblems?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 341 Location: Wisconsin | Some got it and some didn't. I don't know if it was a change part way through the year or if it was based on part availability. Both of my uncle's G's have the numbers but mine does not.

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Mine doesn’t have it. When you look at pictures on line of 61Gs it’s about 50/50 I was just wondering why?

Might have to survey owners to find out build dates to see if there is a correlation. Is so, it would be a running change. On the 300F you had the hub cap with the 300 emblem on the trunk. Maybe owners didn't like that you couldn't tell it was a 300 from the back on the 300G. I'll pose the question to the 300 club and see if we can't do a survey.

Expert Posts: 3887 Location: Northen Virginia | 61, Newports also had that discrepancy with a Chrysler emblem in the front fenders. It was not an option and every car on the brochures had it...However only early productions cars came with it. The emblem was gone in later production run units. To save money for sure on the cheap Newport, but this will be not the case for the 300, valued at Imperial territory. Edited by hemidenis 2022-09-19 9:18 PM

Expert Posts: 1223 Location: Ramona, CA | Here is information from the 300 club archives: From Andy Mikonis, 300G club expert: Why do some 300Gs have chrome "300" numbers on the lower left corner of the deck lid and some do not? The artist renderings in the 300G sales catalog show the cars with numbers but early production cars did not have them. An original owner of a 300G told me he noticed the numbers started appearing on 300Gs in the showroom around January 1961. This has been consistent with my survey of 300Gs. http://www.chrysler300club.com/trunk/g/Gtrunk.html

It's only one example, but that's consistent with my G that has a scheduled build date of December 1960 and no "300" emblem on the trunk. The car has one older repaint on an otherwise original car, so I have no reason to believe someone has filled holes and removed the emblem.

Elite Veteran Posts: 769 | Just an observation on subject. I’ve noticed there are trunk lids with the the cutouts bolting 300 numbers on and those without. Kinda like with 61 Plymouth golden commando trunk lids. Some have cutouts while others do not.
