I remove the old plastic from the customer’s steering wheel frame, bead blast the frame and paint it the same color as the new plastic. Through my proprietary process, I cast on a specially formulated thermoset UV stable urethane plastic in the original configuration without loss of the original detail. The urethane does not shrink, crack or turn yellow.
The steering wheel frame is placed into a mold where the top and bottom halves of the rim are cast in the appropriate color. Upon completion of the curing process, the plastic is heat treated, sanded and polished.
The steering wheel frame is placed into a second mold where the hand grips, spokes, and hub are molded in any color. The color is incorporated into the urethane plastic, it is uniform throughout. After the curing process is complete, the plastic is again heat treated, sanded and polished to a concourse quality finish. The finished product is polished plastic, not a painted wheel. Each color of the molded plastic is one complete casting, there are no joints.
The cost is $2200.00 with a lifetime warranty. For the continental US, there is a return shipping charge of $65-115 which includes $2700.00 of insurance. Turnaround times vary from 6 to 8 weeks. Call me, 858-271-7374, for current turnaround times, shipping information and any other questions.
