I have an A466 (58' imperial drive train) in a hudson Essex. Can anyone tell me if the TV lever moves 1:1 with the throttle or does the TV lever start to move at maybe 1/4 or 1/2 throttle? For 18yrs The TV has been wired about 1/2 way. Like to make it work correctly. There is no room for the original style bell crank that pushes the TV lever. Edlebrock carb on a hotheads intake.

I am sure that others know more that I do *BUT* based on my 56 Dodge with a Carter 4 bbl and a A-466 Torqueflite *AND* this Imperial throttle linkage diagram, the throttle pressure linkage moves with each movement of the throttle pedal via the Bell crank. At what travel ratio, I do NOT know.

In the original factory configuration, the transmission lever does not move in a perfect 1:1 ratio with the carb but pretty near so. The trans lever should be full forward with the carb at curb idle and start to move rearward as soon as the throttle is opened...the travel is fairly linear with the lever near full back at WOT. Dave's pic above differs from the stock '58 configuration in that the throttle linkage attaches to the bottom of the carb lever and pushes the carb open rather that attaching at the top of the carb lever and pulling it open.

To use a cable setup similar to the Lokar, a spring must be attached to the trans lever to pull it full forward and then the cable attach point on the trans lever must be configured so that carb lever travel closely matches the trans lever travel...this usually requires drilling a new hole in the trans lever.

If you're using a carb other than stock and have pull linkage, a cable installation is a lot easier..just follow the rules above.

I chose the Imperial linkage diagram because he said he had an Imperial motor and trans. Maybe these Desoto linkage diagrams come closer to what you wanted John (??).

Oops, missed that. Problem with that carb's throttle arm is there is no provision below the throttle shaft to pull a cable...so a little fab work will be necessary. If the OP has an aftermarket carb, no problem.

Thanks for the help. I have a set of lokar cables. Im going to first try setting up so the TV cable utilizes an existing hole on the bottom of the eddlebrock carb Throttle lever and TV will open and close simultaneously BUT the travel will not be 1:1. Because of the carb lever angle the TV will open faster (or more) at the begging of treavel than the end ??

I have a 1956 Imperial, 354 Hemi with TorqueFlite trans with the same Hot Heads intake. You're right that you can't mount the original linkage in the original location, but I was able to slightly modify and relocate mine closer to the carb (or in my case, the throttle body fuel injection). I ended up making all new linkage rods anyway with heim joints to eliminate all the slop in the original linkage. Here's the best picture I have, but if you needed more I could get under the hood and take some if that would help you.
