Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Have a '57 Dodge Suburban, I took out the rear dome light (above the 3rd row seat) many months ago to have the headliner done. Headliner is done and now I have forgotten how it's supposed to be wired.... Have 5 wires. Can anyone help? Shop manual doesn't show and no, it's not obvious from looking at it....

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | No to the switch, it's wired and fully functional. I would think 1 wire is a ground, two to bulb and one to on/off switch?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9899 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Based on the diagram that I posted (and repeated below), there would appear to be one hot (always Powered) wire to the rear most wagon dome light and one switch. I presume that the ground is through the frame of the dome light as it is screwed to a cross bar in the roof structure. One wire in. None out. It will be hot when the battery is connected.

Additional to this I have on map light switch and two dome light switches where I am able to switch on the dome lamps & map light too. If you need a picture of the dome lamp wires, let me know

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | Yes a photo would be very helpful. I'll post photos below of what the wiring looks like that I have. The shop manual diagram doesn't show it

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | You're wiring diagram is great, the factory one is really poor, I'm going to print that one and laminate it to use. That ground screw goes to the dome light body itself?

Elite Veteran Posts: 1157 Location: D-70199 Heslach | Thanks, Garrett - I made the rear wiring by myself,- and that includes a wiring diagram too. It helps me afterwards to find (remember) all the wire colors, and so on......The left lower square in the wiring diagram is the plug behind kick panel But remember, MY wiring is differnt to OEM specification BTW,- the black ground wire goes/comes from the B-post.

Elite Veteran Posts: 943 | That ground wire screws to the dome light housing correct? Do you know where I can get a new socket to replace the one in the dome light? Thanks

I got mine from R and J Automotive, 39a Shelter Rock Rd, Danbury CT 06810, item #191553969, on ebay for $8.37 with free shipping. I used a generic grommet to hold it in place.
