Does anyone know anything about this car? I've contacted them and someone else contacted them three times, no response.

I've talked to him on the phone. He says it was orignally green, which is odd. It might mean that it is a clone, so you will want to look at the body tag before purchase. He owes me a couple of pictures, and I will ask for that. But if you are interested, even if it's a Fireflite made to look like an Adventurer, it's still a good deal. He said it had rust above the headlights that was fixed. Not sure what his quality of fixing entails. Also a small hit to the left rear quarter.

Looking at the engine bay photo, it appears to have the special coil mounting bracket and the drivers side intermediate spark plug wire bracket which are both dual quad only items. Has other Adventurer trim bits as well.

I highly recommend viewing the car in person and knowing what to look for before making a decision. There are a lot of red flags here.

I talked to Paul too.  He sent me an image of the data tag.  It is a real Adventurer.  Code 492, PNT XVX, white roof, gold body, white sweep.  I can understand why Paul thought it was originally green.  Adventurer gold does have a slight green tint.

I agree with Ron.  Some of the images he sent were worrisome.  I might fly out to see it, but I don't know.  It has the original trunk mat.  Adventurer wheel covers are gone.  Headliner looks great.  I don't think it would be an easy restoration.

Could you do an inexpensive restoration on it and make money?

  • Repaint the body (I think there is where you are going to find it needs a lot of work)
  • Freshen the engine bay and repaint the block (red now - there is probably a bit of work to be done there too)
  • You would have to do something with the interior and repaint the dash
  • WWW and wire wheels - or a set of $13,000 wheel covers that will clang off when you hit the first bump.

Ugh!  I don't know.  I don't think I have it in me to do a full frame-off, nut and bolt restoration, but that's probably what it needs.  Those never pencil.

Can you post some of the pics he sent you? What about the engine number? Is it the original engine?

This is the image that caused me the most concern.  It is of the underside of the passenger side rear quarter.  It looks like it was repaired with foam.

I wanted some images of the headliner and it looked really nice.

I did not get an image of the engine number or the VIN.  After talking with Paul, I was not concerned that the engine block had been replaced, but I didn't ask the question directly.

Looking at the images carefully, it looks like power windows were not original to this car.  In fact, it appears that only the driver side has a power window!  Paul said the driver side door had been replaced and there was a repair to the back bumper / trunk due to damage caused while it was in the shop.  Evidently, the driver door replacing the original came with a power window!  There's a little oddity for you!

Yes, the foam is not a good sign. And also there was rust above the headlights. Are those the original spinner wheel covers in the trunk? Still curious about the engine number.

The wheel covers in the trunk look like ‘57 Dodge style.

Ron

This is the most sage advice I've read, and not just for this car, but for any car.

It amazes me that people with a lot more money than I have will blow tens of thousands on an old ride sight unseen, when an airline ticket to anywhere in the USA is relatively inexpensive in comparison to getting hornswoggled on a car deal.

Granted, I paid top-dollar for my very clean, original '61 Pioneer, and granted, it was 120 miles away, but I would not have bought it sight unseen. I ran numbers and viewed the tags for authenticity (no one really forges a mid-trim Slant Dart sedan, but still), jacked it up, got under it, knocked on panels, used a magnet, started it and ran it, etc., etc. before I decided to bite.

IMHO, only a fool buys a car sight unseen. If you got the scratch to buy one of these, you got the scratch to go see it for yourself.

I looked at the car in person back in 2015 or 2016. This car needs EVERYTHING.

Great Day!

Nice catch on the sill plate!  I'd be willing to bet it has a De Soto sill plate on the other side.  I think the driver door is the one that was replaced.
