Has anyone experience with installing an Small block (LA) fuel pump on a 315 Poly or Hemi?
Or friend Dave, 56D500boy has done extensive research into which is the correct OE pump and for those of you who are purists, that is the way to go. Myself being a bit frugal would rather pay 50 bucks for a fuel pump rather than 150. I see Hemi Hot Heads make an adapter to use with an LA pump. But does this combo work on a 315?

If you have the OEM fuel pump, I would recommend buying a rebuild kit from Then and Now and rebuilding yours, rather than jury rigging and trying to jam a square peg into a round hole. The rebuild kit is around 50-60.

I've put the LA pump with the Hot Heads adapter on the '57 315 Dodge poly in my '57 Dodge D200 truck. It works well and runs without issue. The only downsides are having to use 2 gaskets instead of just 1, and that it looks newer. But as far as how it works, there are no issues with it.

But you have to know the Carter pump model so you can figure out which kit to buy (might have been ground off on an old rebuild).

Personally, I can't find the Carter Number that is equivalent to the 4280 I see on most of the 56 Dodge rebuilds. (??)

I wouldn't worry what part# it should be, I would use whatever part # is on the pump.
I had a pump with no external numbers, spoke with someone at Then and Now who told me to look inside the pump for numbers.
There was numbers and they were able to identify which rebuild kit to use.
It has worked perfectly.

I did not mention, the fuel pump that is on my engine is an AC Delco. A replacement for the OE Carter sometime in the last 60 years. I have hesitated on taking it off to find a number and then locate a repair kit. I want a spare and Powerflite has answered my question about fit and function. I will buy a Hemi Hot Heads adapter and once I have that and a LA cheapie fuel pump I will swap it out. Then I can get numbers off the ACD and hopefully find a kit. At this time there is no issue with the ACD, I have had the car up to 85 MPH on the highway, so fuel supply is not an issue. Once I rebuild the ACD it can go back on the engine.

I don't know anything about the LA fuel pumps.
Are they new enough to be ethanol compliant?
The rebuild kits from Then and Now are ethanol compliant.
I've rebuilt six fuel pumps for various vehicles and never had one fail.

Yes, the LA pumps are very new, usually manufactured within the last 5 years or less.

I read recently on which Mopar forum I can't remember or locate the subject but several people were complaining of recently purchased fuel pumps where the pivot pins were walking out of pump housing and of course causing the vehicle to be inoperative.

I'll post an older thread to explain what I'm talking about but the thread that I'm talking about I read sometime over this summer so these were current purchases.
I don't remember which pumps they were talking about and searching for the info, it doesn't seem strictly Mopars.

There are no rebuild kits for AC Delco pumps. Then and Now only supplies kits for OEM pumps. I would find out the correct Carter pump number, then track down that pump from a parts car. Then rebuild that one.

If the current pump works, then leave it alone. I would, however, measure pump pressure. Aftermarket pumps tend to put out too much pressure, which may cause excessive wear on the needle and seat as well as possible flooding at the carb.

I just tried to get a rebuild kit for an Autolite fuel pump that was on a 56 Dodge 315. I called up Then and Now and was advised they have to make a custom kit for it. He did advise me that they have a brand new AC style fuel pump that he could ship out to me for around $168 or so. This was about 4 or 5 weeks ago now and I still haven't received the fuel pump yet. I do know when I was able to actually talk to him about 2 weeks ago, that they were short handed and really busy.

I found this fellow who advertises repairs and kits for many makes of mechanical fuel pump like, AC, Autolite, etc,

As soon as I get my pump off the engine and find the number I will call him and order a kit or 2.

Hal at Classic Preservation is a real stand up guy. I've dealt with him a couple of times and have
been perfectly happy. Excellent work on a pump I had him restore and his kits are excellent.
