I have a 1955 plymouth with a V8 and 3 speed transmission that has oil leaks from the transmission and differential. I don't think any work has ever been done to stop oil leaks on these.

I heard about AT 205 from the Scotty Kilmer Channel and decided to try a very small amount of it in my 3 speed manual transmission and differential. It has actually worked very well. You have to drive for about 500 miles to see a difference. I put much less than the recommended amount because I didn't want to degrade the oil and after 750 miles, my oil leaks are almost completely stopped. I'm actually amazed at how well this is working.

Thanks Sam. I had never heard of AT 205 Reseal until just now. This is what I found out by Googling:

"AT-205 Re-Seal is a fast, effective and safe stop-leak for all rubber seals and gaskets. The exclusive formulation restores worn or dried out seals and is not harmful to internal bearings and components.'

"How long does AT-205 reseal take to work?
5 hours: ATP Automotive AT-205 stop leak additive will take up to 5 hours of cumulative driving time to be at full effectiveness."

Might have to buy a case of that

The AT 205 bottle says to use 8 ounces in 6 quarts of oil or one ounce per quart. You don't need to use nearly this much to get your oil leaks to stop. I added once ounce to a 6 quart oil change on my everyday car and it stopped the rear main seal leak and all the other leaks. It really is surprising how well it works. So one bottle will do a lot of good.

I ordered two bottles about a year ago from Advance Auto Parts online and they were $17 US each. Before the pandemic, I bought a bottle at my Advance Auto Parts local store and it was $12 US. I've just now used up the first bottle I bought before the pandemic and the reason I ran out is I gave 2.5 ounces to my sister so she could treat two of her cars. All of this is just to say that it works even if you don't use as much as they say. I used less because I didn't want to mess up the lubricating qualities of the oil, even though the bottle says it won't hurt the oil. I was just being conservative. But I can say from personal experience that it really works good.

It's a good idea to watch this video so you can see the warning about a coated oil pan. If you have a coated oil pan and add AT 205 without running the engine and stirring it up in the oil, the concentrated AT 205 can damage coatings inside the oil pans, if your pan has a coating, and if the coating comes off, it can plug up your oil pump suction. I think all is good if you just remember to run your engine for a few minutes as soon as you add the AT 205...

Thanks for the info and sharing your experience Sam. I may give this a try on some of my cars in the future.

Lightning in a bottle ! Magic !!

Actually, your leaks probably would have subsided even without this potion. The rubber softens up by exposure to the petroleum-based fluids. So driving your car 500 miles would have likely solved the problem, assuming that you are working with fresh fluids.

From what I read online, this is a band-aid fix at best. So it may work for a little while. But the permanent fix is to replace the leaky seal. So why not do that and be done with it ?

This stuff has been around just about as long as I have been. If I remember correctly, when I was in the bench in a Chrysler dealership, I took engine apart that had used this type of product and found the rubber seals stolen and soft. This explains the short term sealing effect. Seals wear like every other part. Just my 2 cents worth.
