First impression is that is a pretty nice car! Closer inspection of the VERY slow loading pictures at the auction site gives some concerns like what appears to be quite a bit of mold (?) growing on the radiator and heater hoses. Also the fiberglass heater box is also either moldy or the glass surface is deteriorating beyond what I'm familiar with seeing. The wrapped steering wheel has some cracks in the visible plastic and that surface itself looks to have molded or something. They don't tell us the mileage nor is it visible. I'm guessing this car has been sitting in a damp garage (barn-like structure in shown) with a car cover maintaining at least the paint. It got washed because there are water beads sitting on the inner fender in one pic! And that its going to need a lot of recommissioning (like brakes and hoses at a minimum) to get it roadworthy.
What say all y'all?

If the bidding falls in the $15,000 to $18,000 range as shown, it would be a steal and allow plenty of room to take care of incidentals. I would like trunk pics and under carriage pics though. It appears the padded dash isn’t sagging and the arm rests and door interior panels are in good shape which are a plus along with the upholstery.

I had some correspondence with the auction company. STRONGLY urge anyone interested to take a look at a couple dozen OTHER pics of this car which reveal a number of problems you better consider before bidding on it. The best pics are shown. The REST of the pics require registration with Bonhams and will very likely change your mind. My mind was changed.

The outer rockers look great, probably a little too good because they are missing the seam in them under the doors. That usually means that there is filler there. How much, and what it is covering is not known.

Looks like a very solid car overall but of course the floors and rockers can be rusted still. It has just been stored in a tight damp place and need to be attended to.
The chrome and paint look still fine so it can`t have been stored like that for too long.

Here what I’ve could see on the door post data plate:

In the upper row:

Scheduled on May 27, 1959

In the middle row:

J23 – remote control left O/S mirror (but I can’t see a control lever) and right O/S mirror
N6 – solex tinted glass

In the lower row:

D7 – rear seat speaker
E5 – heater
F9 – rear quarter stone shields

Hard to read, but according to the paint scheme of this car, it looks like “XAX” in the lower right corner of the tag: Pearl White roof and Insert color over Black body color

And I asked the auction, it's not even running right now, and he couldn't say anything about what was working or not..

Says 361 engine, but obviously it's the 383 BB which were standard on all '59 DeSoto's except Firesweep models.
