I'm waiting for Motorvator to write in that he just took the car out for its first spin around his neighborhood and he loves it!

Then we all hold hands and sing Kumbaya!

I'm waiting for Motorvator to write in that he just found a 2drHT ten miles from his house for the same price.

I don't think you've picked up the right spirit Ron. Let's try circling the station wagons and set up camp to get started.

Not likely.  He's got a family of five.  You know how hard it is to enter and exit the backseat of a 2 dr hdtp with low roofline.

Here's a little sideshow humor for ya' to illustrate how useless the back seats are in 2 dr hdtps.  I'm prepping my DeSoto Fireflite for a car show next week so I climbed  (which means I fell) into the backseat to do the upholstery cleaning/preservative.  SH!T!  I could not get out!  Of course at my age, my shoulders, legs, knees, hips, and pretty much everything else are shot so I cannot bend easily.  It took me half and hour to escape.  And now I hurt so bad it'll take me a week to recuperate.  Next time I'll hook myself to a big rubber band so I can "boing" myself out - - - or I'll just hire a detailer.

How much alcohol was involved in this incident? If it was more than you'll admit, at least you had fun.

That's a $35k car with a consignment place getting their pound of flesh. I think if you offered them $38k it would be yours and you would have a car you could enjoy.

If you decide to buy it, I have a friend that is a licensed and insured transporter.

Here is a '58 Canadian Windsor (US Saratoga) for sale. Not as nice, but might be a good buy, depending on how much you can get it for.

Car may have been restored but not to original as far as the interior is concerned. It's probably a good driver and could get some attention at a cruise though. Would need
a thorough inspection before bringing into the states. Customs and shipping would be pushing $4000.00 or maybe more depending on the price/value and distance to
transport. I'm putting the real money at around $18K if everything checks out.

@57burb: That sounds about right to me. I have a transporter too, but nice to know there's another if I need one, thanks.

@Powerflite: That does look like a good candidate, but I can't get to Canada to go see it, which puts me in the same boat, eh?

So, the dealer suggests a live video conference. I'm a little skeptical since cameras miss things, especially the things I'm interested in. Also there's no lift, which sucks. I was thinking of asking them to aim the camera in the wheel well at the back of the headlights to see if there's any "mud" in the eyebrows, but that's the only idea I have. Any opinions or ideas regarding live video? Any areas they can look at which might convince you the condition is acceptable to justify the purchase? Other thoughts?

Another thought; Spring is around the corner. You think some good alternative vehicles will pop up for sale? Think I should wait? I've already waited a year...

I'd have them go over the rockers closely, with some footage of the frame and body mount areas. Peel up the trunk mat to look underneath if that's an option. There is a bulkhead behind the headlight points so I'm not sure how much you'll be able to see up in there, but every little bit helps.

Charles Phoenix is selling a beautiful '57 Crown Imperial (as of 20 minutes ago) for what I think is a very fair price. Similar condition to the NYer, 30k miles, unrestored, priced at $35k.

I sold my first ‘59 DeSoto to Charles and he is extremely picky as to what he buys. The car has to be about perfect. I see no reason that this Imperial is exactly that. I see the dash pad is a little wrinkled and there is no A/C (my DeSoto didn’t have a padded dash or A/C). There are no pics of the undercarriage of this car but mine was fairly detailed.

He had my DeSoto priced at $39000.00 and sold it immediately. Why this Imperial is priced for less with a make an offer, is a mystery to me. someone needs to take advantage.

What model was your Desoto and was it also a 4dr HT ? Do you have a photo of it ?

My DeSoto was a Firesweep 4 door sedan. If you google 1959 DeSoto, there is a Charles Phoenix video on the car (blue and white) much like the one on the Imperial. Very impressive - he does a super job of presenting his cars. (You Tube)
