Subject: 63/64 Transmission differences between cable shift on the dash, floor shift

Looking for some expert knowledge on converting a dash cable shift transmission to floor shift automatic on a 727 heard there was difference with the park cable mechanism in the transmission. I have switched both cables and have a 64 Plymouth floor shifter set up. Seems like when shifting into park cable is just 1/4 TO 1/2 in. off from locking in position? Have not tried to redo shifter park end yet .Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Location: NorCal		The Park mechanism in the transmission tail is the same from '62-'65, the push button and console shift and Park cables are different as is the "roostercomb" in the valve body. Since the console shifter travels one more position than the push button does, the roostercomb has an extra detent and the valve body casting is modified to allow for the extra travel of the manual valve.

In short, to make a console shifter work with a '62-'64 push button trans you need a '64-'65 console/column valve body...it's a simple drop-in and the console/column shaft cable adjustment procedure needs to be adhered to.

Location: NorCal		You can't just replace the roostercomb, as I stated, the valve body casting was also modified...so you need to replace the entire VB.

Performance transmission builders offer complete VB's but they shift harsher than stock.

The car had the coolest pushbutton shift and the owner wants to degrade it.

Don't get me wrong, just curious.....

2464423 is from a '64 full-sized car with a 318.

It may be considered sacrilege for a Mopar fan, but I have never been a big fan of the pushbutton shifter. More "unique" than "cool" IMO.

Thank you John!

I have a couple of other mopers with push buttons. I like both setups.

my wife and thought it would be a cool diffident build and like the floor setup behind my old 392 Hemi in my 57 Plymouth Wagon.

Its been a challenge but will get it right.

Conversion parts installed, Have to make sure valve body has open hole for longer rod to be installed though, MY 64 valve body did have the hole so I was good to go with changing out the kit parts.

Pat has kits that do this conversion too,,

Great to work with too! What a asset for these transmissions!
