'55 Belvedere is missing both wiper pivots. The chrome bezels are still in place.

I cannot figure out how to remove the bezels so I can replace them.

Anybody know how these bezels can be removed?

Have a look at this thread. It is about my 56 Dodge wiper pivots but I am guessing that the 55-56 Dodge and Plymouth wiper pivots are very similar

Thanks for the link. Good news and bad news. Good news, the photos there suggest the Dodge and Plymouth wiper pivots are very similar.

The bad news, I think a p.o. butchered up the system. Eventually I'll figure out how to post photos here but I had already suspected something was up with these bezels since the Service Manual showed a "clamp". And the pix from the other thread show such a clamp piece bolted to the bezel.

Looking from underneath, I don't see a "clamp". And the screw holes from the bezel are empty. I suspect that with those screws out the bezel should come free. I don't want to force it but the bezel is certainly not loose so I wonder if they've been "glued" in place or worse, tack welded somehow.

Gotta hate it when things get jury-rigged, making any fix even harder than than it already would be had it been simply left alone.

Based on the 55-58 parts catalogue that I use, I believe that the PN for the 55-56 Plymouth wiper pivots is 1622 435 for the sedans and wagons and 1622 436 for the hardtops and convertibles.

Searching for 1622 435 (as "1622435 wiper pivot"), I found a few hits, including these used ones on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/385340880739

Point is the base of the 1622 435 looks like my 56 Dodge pivots so I presume the attachment is via the "Clamping" plate and two bolts (per pivot)

So they should be removable by removing the clip from the activation arm and the two clamping bolts

Thanks for the p/n help. I've been watching them on ebay but didn't know if they were correct for the sedan, the Service Manual mentioned that the coupe/convertible were different.

And now I know that I'm also needing the clamping plates and bolts. Any chance they are reproduced?

Can you provide the p/n for them? Are they also '55-'56 only?

The wiper pivot clamping plate is PN 1605 523. They won't be reproduced but you might find them at a wrecking yard that still has old Mopars. The bolts will be a standard thread, e.g. 1/4" x 18 or something like that.

You could make clamping plates if you had to. Could be similar to the cup washers that I made for my hood ornament earlier in the week:

They were reproduced by Richard Main a while ago. There aren't any more of them, but I managed to pick up a pair of them to use on my convertible. So, they aren't hard to reproduce if you make a mold from a good original.
