Regular Posts: 75 | Hi I am thinking of fitting Gabriel air shocks from Rock Auto on the rear but I have found previous air shocks I have had particularly on motorcycles that they need topping up say every 4 weeks or so . Has anyone any experience of these Gabriel shocks if so what are they like GABRIEL 49110 Hi-Jacker; See photo below Thanks in advance Edited by Arocket111 2023-03-26 8:57 AM Attachments ---------------- B6AC983E-D113-4DD0-BDBF-B29DA426DDC1.jpeg (147KB - 122 downloads)

Later bought new springs and sold the shocks for $20. I tell myself expensive is cheap and cheap is expensive, but seldom do I listen. I have a Falcon I bought new springs for, but not Eatons like my other Falcon that sits perfectly. Added air shocks to it. Periodically need to add air to raise it to the level I like, which of course increases the pressure affecting the ride.

But if you do decide to go with air shocks for some reason, my experience is that the Gabriel's work much better than the Monroe's and are less prone to leaking.

On my Buick Estate Wagon '90 daily driver I have Acdelco air shocks, but with automatic level control, fantastic comfort and cornering. Just hi-jackers tends to give a bumpy ride if pumped up too hard

Both info and quality parts and very good pricing. I've owned air-shock cars. No way would I have them again. I agree with the Wizard: add a leaf and have done so on multiple cars.

I have seen some pretty unfortunate results of this . . . Gregg

Rather than adding a leaf, in my experience, it is better to make a brand new 2nd leaf, and replace the 2nd leaf in the pack. That will increase the spring rate to a nice level on an old pack of springs. Single leaves can be made cheaply at any truck spring shop if you give them the dimensions, or bring your old 2nd leaf for them to copy, with additional curve to it, if you wish.
